Hello! I am so excited to embark on this new endeavor of becoming a writer. Writing is something that I have always enjoyed, and have considered as a career option. As I have grown older (though I do not feel mid-twenties is old!) I have realized how the complications of life can steer you in directions you did not expect, and at times steer you away from your personal goals. Due to my unrelenting effort to live a fulfilled and happy life, I am continuously looking for ways to make my life the fullest life I can live. Afterall, you only get one! Becoming a writer, even if it's never on a large scale format, is one dream I am determined to live out.
I remember being a child and my mother telling me that she could see me becoming an author when I grow up. This really stuck with me, as many things your parents tell you when you are a child do. I began writing short stories when I was a child, and as I grew so did my writing. I continued writing short stories, poetry, and even wrote a few songs (nothing radio worthy)! My intention was to study English in college with a possible minor in Creative Writing. Then, one British Literature course first semester with a negative and demeaning professor was enough to change my mind completely and go into healthcare. I studied Therapeutic Recreation, as I felt a career with a focus on helping individuals would best fulfill my need for a meaningful career.
I worked for several months at a children's home (very difficult work), and then just over two years at a Veteran's Administration nursing home. A total of three years of being an RT was enough to tell me that I was not going to be happy doing this for the rest of my life. I decided I would enjoy physical therapy, but was not convinced pursuing a doctorate degree was the right decision for me either. So, I applied to an associate's level PTA program. Much to my relief, I was accepted! This not only provided me with an "out" from my unsatisfying career, but hope for the future. I am more than half way through this program now, and am anxiously awaiting graduation. This transitional time in my life has provided me an opportunity to reflect and ponder what I truly want out of my life. I never forgot my dream of being a writer, and have decided there is no better time than now to pursue it.
I cannot write a biography on myself without mentioning my faith in God and Jesus Christ. I am not perfect, I do not attend church every Sunday, and I have certainly made my fair share of bad choices. This is why I am so passionate and thankful for The Lord and all he does for me. I need him to forgive my imperfect self. Next, I must mention my fiance'. He is the most wonderful man in the whole world, and I seriously consider myself the luckiest girl alive to have him in my life (I'm sure that sounds pretty thick, but what can I say! I'm nuts about the guy)! And finally, my mother, father, sister, brother, extended family, and friends are worthy of a special mention. I am blessed with the most incredible people in my life, and boy are they a hoot to be around too!
Life fulfillment, love, and overall happiness are topics I am passionate about. These will likely be the main topics I will be writing about. So, here I am, putting myself out there for all to see. I must admit, for me this is a scary endeavor as I am somewhat of a private person. Particularly when it comes to my writing, which has pretty much always been personal. However, I believe that to see something different in your life you must DO something different. It may seem a small step to some, to begin writing on this website, but for me it is a big step. To anyone who will read my material, I welcome constructive criticism and lots of praise and encouragement! I'll be seeing you on the web all!
