Through elementary and high school I was encouraged to be a writer, but that was such a vague aspiration that after graduation I got a job working the midnight shift in a factory. However, I continuted to write and took a correspondence course in writing for children. Then I had children. There's just no time to concentrate on writing when there are little ones running around, pulling pots and pans from the cupboards and such.

When my children were school-age, I went to a two-year college to study Information Systems. More than one professor seemed to question the authenticity of my written work, one even asking if I'd written the paper I'd handed in, stating that they don't normally see that quality of writing in a community college. I assume watching me work helped them to realize that I don't cheat. My English professor advanced me to the next course partway through the first semester, saying there was nothing more she could teach me.

After finishing my degree, I took a few odd jobs before settling into a customer service position where I stayed for 12 years. I loved my job and was occasionally able to keep my skills honed by writing instructional material and sending notes to customers. The company didn't survive in the poor economy, so I am at my next crossroads.

I haven't written anything new in quite a while, but I've just discovered Hub Pages and have decided to post a couple of old short childrens' stories as a start.

Perhaps I will find a muse at this crossroads and be able to produce some helpful, or at least entertaining, stories and articles.
