I am a stay at home mom with three boys; 2 teenagers at home and one in the Navy. I have a wonderful 'computer geek' husband. Now that my children are getting older, I am working on using the information that I have gleaned over the years to help others live more healthy, naturally and frugally. My interests are nutrition, herbology, fitness, studying the Bible, being a good homemaker, gardening, and most of all cooking. I am also a fan of astronomy, living off-grid, current events and I love to listen to many kinds of music including musicals, big band, classical, light rock, jazz and more.
There are many important things to me in life, but two of my most favorite things are being healthy as well as thrifty. The reason I started this blog was so I could share much of the knowledge I have gained researching the area of health and nutrition while being thrifty all at the same time! I will share with you how to make all natural cleaners which will be safe and gentle to use, but at the same time inexpensive. I know many of you would like to use natural cleaners, but are discouraged when you see the price you have to pay for them. We all want to keep our families safe from harmful chemicals found in many products on the shelf, even some which claim to be 'natural', but at an affordable price. Hopefully, through my blog, you will learn how to do this.
Also, I would like to share interesting nutrition information I have gleaned over the years, and also share many healthy recipes. My recipes will never contain any fad diet trendy items. I believe in health, but only time tested wisdom. One big example is butter. I have absolutely no qualms about butter. I cook with plenty of it, and my husband and our three sons appreciate it! None of us have a weight problem, and best of all butter has no trans fats that you always hear about - never were. I always avoid saturated fats such as those found in shortenings and many pre-packaged foods. That is why most of what I make at home is from scratch. But it doesn't mean I am in the kitchen all day. On the contrary, I will show you how to make many things from scratch in a minimum amount of time. Yes, I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes all of the time. It is a hobby for me. But most of my recipes will be simple, delicious, and yes, ---- thrifty!!!
One thing which I make from scratch and would like to share with you is a very old delicious, fizzy, tart beverage which many of you may have already heard of. Panning the aisles of any health food store, you will notice outrageous prices for some of the latest trends in nutrition. Whether it be the acai berry drink, or noni juice or green beverages, or weight loss remedies, all of these products have a hefty price. I am not trying to sway you in any direction, but to me, I feel the health food industry is fast becoming a profit driven industry, with money as the bottom line for some of the companies. Instead of purchasing supplement after supplement ( There are some which I will purchase.), I have chosen to eat healthy, exercise and make some of my own tonics. One of them is called Kombucha tea. It is delicious and can be made into different flavors , as well as the original plain cider like beverage that many know as Kombucha, or Miracle Tea or Manchurian Mushroom Tea as some call it. In fact, Kombucha is known throughout the world to be a beverage with many health benefits which you can make at home for pennies.
My goal is to help you to be healthier. Keep checking back for great blogs on cooking, herbs, health and natural cleaning recipes!
