Joined 11 years ago from Henryville, Indiana
I am a mom, a writer, a wife, a daughter. Growing up, my family owned several businesses and I learned about small business from my parents and later by starting my own ventures. I've worked with business people, designing their websites and content for about 10 years.
I am a published writer as well. My favorite genre is romantic comedy, but you might find me writing anything from how to tie the perfect bow to something more complex about business dealins.
I am homeschooling my youngest daughter. I love to read anything I can get my hands on, teach and learn about new things. This is my world, which I affectionately call "Lori La La Land".

I've written both fiction and nonfiction, including books on business and writing. I've also served as site editor for topics like fashion, parenting, animals and education. I've written profusely on these topics, I am a very eclectic writer and have also written in food, travel, and on a variety of general topics. I believe a good writer can write almost anything given enough time to research, learn about the topic and interview experts.
I worked for LoveToKnow as a writer and editor for five years through August 2011, but also have written widely online and for print magazines.
Fiction is my first love. My books include titles like The Lipstick Diaries, Housebreaking a Husband, Finding Ms. Right, The Elixir and Dear Viking. Find my complete booklist on my author website www.lorisoard.com.
Website Design, Hosting, Promotion
I designed my first website in 1997. Looking back on that initial design, it wasn't the best. Over the years, I picked up new techniques, took classes, learned basic coding, added knowledge of PHP, SQL and CSS, and improved in overall design ability. Today, I enjoy creating websites for clients. One of the things I really enjoy doing through my business, Promo Divas, is offering a complete package for the person who might be a little uncertain about how to get their business online, or who simply wants to spend their time on other things. We offer everything from getting your domain name to the hosting to designing a unique site to promoting that site for you.
My daughter recently joined me in my work and is doing social media promotions for our clients and our business. I'm excited that we're able to offer this at Promo Divas.
My Websites and Blogs
Index of my hubs on HP is below my links and disclaimer. You can see which hubs are hot, which are new and link to others through each one you read. Hope you enjoy them.
I also enjoy writing articles for...
Rat Race Mutiny
RRM came about as a result of numerous friends and acquaintances asking me how they too could work from home and for themselves. I offered a class to teach them some different ways to freelance, wrote a few articles, wrote a guide, put it all online and RRM was born. Today, RRM is a free resource for the general public that helps people learn to leave the rat race and work for themselves.
Even though I'm at home full-time, I'm not your typical housewife. I have had to juggle homeschooling, a writing career, a part-time business, raising kids, keeping house and a myriad of other things. Crabby Housewife is my blog that chronicles my adventures, hopefully in a humorous way. You might find a post about the recipe I'm currently using, my crazy tips for making it seem lke you cleaned house when you didn't or ideas for saving money. I am the queen of coupon queens, so lots of tips on frugal living.
This is a New York Times owned company that reviews a wide variety of products. If you want to know some hard-hitting facts about almost any product that you'd like to buy, check out this site. I love writing items for my blog on this site. My assignments have been a lot of fun and the editors are wonderful to work with. They offer feedback that helps you grow as a writer, while appreciate your strengths.
I've written for the Examiner for quite a while now. I cover parenting issues, things in Louisville for parents and kids and I also cover weddings, although not as extensively as parenting.
Little Gray Shack
Little Gray Shack started as a place to put articles that I had written on spec or thinking I could sell and couldn't. However, when I thought this over, I realized I already have several venues for that. Then, I remembered the little gray shack that my great-aunt Eula used to live in in the hollers of West Virginia and Aunt Emma was born. The site has recently transformed into a place that is similar to Aunt Eula's kitchen. You will get stories, recipes, gossip. It's just getting started, so if you have ideas, let me know.
I have always wanted to own a newspaper, but they are such expensive ventures. I was excited to learn about this site and that I could be "Mayor" of my town and put together news. If you are from the area and have a story to add, please contact me. I'd love your guest post and you can link back to your own site. It does need to be about the Kentuckiana area.
Additional Websites I run and have designed...
This is the first website I designed and opened back in 1997. I actually passed the website to another owner for a few years, because i was focused on my work at LoveToKnow as an editor and dealing with several other crazy-busy things. Fortunately, the woman I gave it to was willing to let me have it back. I've revamped it. It has many of the old features, a few new. It is for readers and writers.
Every year or two, I put out this author yearbook. Get to know your favorite authors better, join in on fun contests and promotions, or join us for a chance to promote your books and writing.
This is my business website for web design, content writing and promotions. We also have contests and events, so check it out for a lot of fun.
I hate to have to put in this disclaimer, but I've had a couple of issues recently where I've had to notify web hosts and track down people who've taken my work without permission. Just to be clear and avoid confusion... All material and articles on this page and in my hubs, blogs, and writing are all copyright Lori Soard. They may not be reproduced without permission.
