I'm sipping tea at the kitchen table in our rented apartment overlooking the sea in Cefalu, Sicily. My husband, Barry, and I are spending a few weeks bicycling around Sicily. This is our 14th independent bike trip. Yesterday we cycled to a sanctuary in the mountains, formerly Arab, now Christian. Tomorrow we'll be hiking in a nearby park. Today is an in-between day, and it's raining. Perfect!

I'm a 61-year-old adventurer, a learner and lover of travel, languages, health, fitness, cooking, family relationships, and more. Professionally I've had a business as a leadership and management trainer and coach for 25 years. My goal is to enable healthy relationships in the workplace. I love my work, but I love a lot of other things too. I have the incredible privilege of being semi-financially independent these days.

I was born in a car (true story! a 1947 Chevy), grew up living in other countries (my dad was a diplomat), and married cross-culturally (to Barry, a Welsh Brit). For the last six years we've divided our life between our apartment in Old Town, Eureka, California, and the home we bought and remodeled in central Mexico.

I feel that loss defines my life in many ways. My family architecture changed shape the year my mother died, and four months later, my only brother died. That was more than 35 years ago. It's funny how loss isn't a still life, it's more like a plant that keeps sprouting new forms. Not in a negative way, necessarily.

I see all of this as fodder for writing. I look forward to engaging-- with life, readers, other writers. Onwards!
