I am a retired United States Air Force Senior Master Sergeant with 23 years’ service, mostly as an historian and a public information superintendent. I’ve worked with words for more than 40 years and have written articles for military newspapers and magazines and public news releases in addition to producing quarterly unit histories, each the equivalent of a master’s thesis for college.
An Air Force unit history generally described what the unit was supposed to do during a specific period of time, what it did and why there were differences. My histories contained more complete data concerning the unit’s activities than any other source.
The unit commander, usually a full colonel or general officer, had to review and approve my work before it could be forwarded to a higher headquarters. Separate copies went to a Numbered Air Force, a Command headquarters and Headquarters, USAF. I never had a problem getting my commander’s signature during my entire career.
I am now a freelance journalist and photographer, and have been a stringer for a local weekly newspaper, the Westside Journal of Callahan, FL. I’ve been published on an online newspaper, the North Florida News Daily, and on Associated Content.
I’m very proud of my work and invite you to review examples which may be found at the following addresses: http://www.northfloridanewsdaily.com/News/2008/0915/community/168.html; http://www.northfloridanewsdaily.com/News/2008/0811/opinion/145.html; and http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1446892/time_currents_what_happens_if_you_cross.html?cat=38. I hope you enjoy them.
Take a look at my online newspaper, Florida Snips & Snaps (http://floridasnipsandsnaps.com/). I think you'll like it.
I'm finding out firsthand what it means to publish a newspaper of any kind. I believe one of my (and anyone else who does something similar) greatest advantages over a "print" paper is that I can make corrections as necessary while a "print" mistake is forever.
I'd be interested in possible articles and suggestions concerning getting advertisers and additional readers. I've thought about Google's "AdSense," and will probably also take advantage of GoDaddy's programs.
I love to copy read and can tell you a story which I’m sure will give you a laugh. Without going into details, imagine how a missing letter might prompt me to threaten to call the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. If you’d like to read the story, just let me know.
