The Totem Pole is an icon of the Naive Americans, but not all tribes carved them. The many types of Totem commemorate different actions, people, and events. A resurgence in the carving of these structures began with a pole dedicated to the victims of 911,& another for restoration of Native rights.
The Timucua Nation, a Native American tribe, flourished in Florida until they were no more. Decimated by war and disease, the last of the tribe died in Cuba in 1700, but their legacy remains in St. Augustine.
