Matthew Carluccio, an award-winning Executive Producer at NBC, has built a career spanning nearly three decades in broadcast journalism. His work has been central to many of the network’s most respected programs, including Dateline NBC, TODAY, Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist, and NBC News Specials. With a focus on accuracy, clarity, and effective leadership, he has guided teams through some of the most significant stories of recent decades, helping deliver trusted coverage to millions of viewers.
Matthew is known for his ability to manage demanding productions and make swift, sound decisions in high-pressure situations. His career accomplishments have been recognized with multiple Emmy Awards and Edward R. Murrow Awards, celebrating excellence in writing, breaking news, and overall production quality. These honors reflect not only his own abilities but also his consistent dedication to teamwork and strong editorial standards.
Born and raised in Toms River, NJ, Carluccio was influenced by his parents’ professional paths in law and psychology, which nurtured his interest in human behavior and the world around him. After attending boarding school in Pennsylvania, he pursued Political Science and Psychology at Clark University in Massachusetts. These fields deepened his understanding of people and institutions, while also sharpening his critical thinking about how stories are shaped and presented to the public. He graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts and soon moved to New York City to begin his professional career.
His first role was with King World TV as an Assistant to the Executive Producer, where he learned firsthand about the daily responsibilities and challenges of television production. Shortly after, Matthew joined NBC as an Associate Producer at Dateline NBC, contributing to long-form stories and investigative assignments. His responsibilities included off-air reporting, writing, editing, and fieldwork. Over time, he gained experience covering international stories from the Middle East and domestic coverage of high-profile criminal cases, which sharpened his ability to deliver thorough and accurate reporting under challenging circumstances.
In 2005, he began producing for TODAY, where he worked closely with anchors on field assignments across the globe. His reporting took him to Cuba, Belize, the Vatican, and Antarctica, where he produced the first live network news report from the South Pole. He also oversaw coverage of multiple Olympic Games from Torino in 2006 through Beijing in 2022. His leadership advanced as he became Supervising Producer in 2008, Senior Producer in 2011, and Executive Producer of the weekend editions of TODAY in 2014. Two years later, Carluccio helped launch Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist, which became a lasting and successful part of the TODAY franchise. Since 2020, he has also led NBC News Specials, managing coverage of elections, inaugurations, global ceremonies, and other significant events.
Outside of his professional life, he has been married for 18 years and is the father of three boys. He lives in Philadelphia with his family and their two dogs. He enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, coaching sports, surfing, skiing, and cooking Italian food while following the NY Yankees. Matthew Carluccio continues to shape meaningful journalism through experience, leadership, and a dedication to delivering trusted news.
