Born and raised in the South, I have a close relationship with food. Family reunions, weddings, funerals, church socials, etc., they all involved food at some point. Oh, it wasn't just ANY food. We're in the South, honey! The spread on the tables would include the most amazing treats -- most of which were fried. LOVED IT ALL! Whew! Back in the day, those church socials had the BEST food! Those little old church ladies were amazing cooks! (Give me a minute here. I'm having a moment.)

Anyway. I love food. I love cooking it, I love eating it, I love dreaming about it, I love watching shows on tv where OTHER people cook it. At this point at nearly 40 years old - but not actually 40 yet! - food is in my DNA, my chromosomes, MY SOUL. Unfortunately, food hasn't loved me back. Well, maybe it has. It has loved my back, my front, my thighs, my arms, my legs, my chins (Yes, CHINS!). UGH!

So how do I un-do the life-long damage I've already done? How do I rewire my thinking to see food as merely sustenance for life? Being an intelligent person, I know it should be a mind over matter deal. I should be strong enough of mind that I may overcome this. I have four degrees, dammit! I am NOT stupid -- though most of the American public stereotype fat people as bumbling idiots. "Duhr! Me want kookies an' penut budder! Duhr!" (said whilst glistening, oozing slobber makes its way down my chin)

So here I am. Fed up! (Ha! And THAT, class, is what we call a PUN.) Literally and figuratively, I am fed up with it all. I've been on diet after diet and exercise programs galore. There's no telling how much weight I've lost over the course of my life. Unfortunately, the weight loss was ALWAYS followed by a weight gain. For the past five years, I've pretty much given up (Of course, there were some other circumstances which also led to that apathetic attitude. But I digress.)

Join me as I find the balance of food, exercise, and health in my life. I will be real with you about my experiences and my feelings, because by being real with you, I must be real with me. I've sugar-coated (What did we learn earlier, class?) situations, issues, and problems for too long. It's time for the honest truth. What’s that saying? The truth shall set you free? I’m ready for my freedom.
