60Dr. Nishi Patel, M.D., is a dynamic cardiologist and healthcare leader who has quickly established himself as a driving force in both clinical cardiology and telemedicine. At WellSpan York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, Dr. Patel specializes in the management of advanced heart failure and cardiac critical care, providing lifesaving therapies to some of the region’s sickest cardiac patients. Beyond his hospital-based practice, he serves as National Director of Cardiac Imaging for Access Physicians/SOC Telemedicine, one of the country’s largest multispecialty telemedicine groups, where he oversees the implementation and quality of cardiac imaging programs—including echocardiography and cardiac CT—for hospitals nationwide, with a special focus on underserved rural communities.
Dr. Patel’s academic credentials are robust and diverse. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Drexel University in 2009 and his Doctor of Medicine from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2013. He completed his internship and residency at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, then advanced his expertise through fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology, Echocardiography, Cardiac CT, and Nuclear Cardiology.
Within WellSpan York Hospital, Dr. Patel leads the advanced heart failure team, delivering cutting-edge therapies such as ECMO, LVAD, and Impella. His work has led to the development of a comprehensive care model, which includes a specialized clinic for survivors of cardiogenic shock and protocols for remote monitoring using CardioMEMS. Dr. Patel is also recognized for developing innovative approaches to virtual and molecular autopsies, providing families with genetic risk assessment in the aftermath of sudden cardiac deaths.
Through his leadership in telemedicine, Dr. Patel has dramatically expanded access to expert cardiac care in communities where such resources were previously unavailable. As National Medical Director of Cardiac Imaging at Access Telecare, he ensures high-quality interpretation and guidance for hospitals nationwide.
Nishi Patel’s dedication extends to academic medicine and research. He has published and presented on topics ranging from mechanical circulatory support to heart transplantation outcomes at prestigious national and international forums. He was awarded the Zoll Foundation Research Grant for pioneering research in the genomics of sudden cardiac arrest. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Cardiology and Cardiac CT at StatPearls and a reviewer for leading cardiology journals.
An enthusiastic educator and mentor, Dr. Patel serves as Associate Professor at Drexel University College of Medicine and is the recipient of the Golden Apple Award for teaching excellence.
