I am the mother of a 12 year old daughter afflicted by severe OCD. Her symptoms began, profoundly, by age 4. Over the years she and I have been through innumerable stages of this horrific illness. As she matures, some symptoms remain everlasting, some seem to fade away, all the while new ones enter her mind and cascade her into, yet another phase of, seemingly everlasting hell. My daughter knows nothing other than OCD, as she doesn’t remember a time when it was not a controlling factor in her life. Therefore, the fear of change or inability to change has resulted in CBET being of no benefit to her situation. Her inability to comply with traditional treatment therapies is called Recovery Avoidance. This is our story.
