Growing up, politics was always a part of our lives. I remember campaigning for Eugene McCarthy, with our family taking some credit for McCarthy’s only win in the primary of 1968. Family members running for various offices - some successful, some not. Some veering from the traditional Catholic Democrat tradition, others not. My father converted as a result of Roe vs Wade. He claimed for years that he was voting GOP, but had to hold his nose every time. My mother remained a Democrat - probably the only pro-life Democrat in the entire state. I am a pretty solid conservative. My favorite presidents, in order: Washington, Adams, Coolidge, Reagan, Trump, and Garfield (only because he had so much potential and so little opportunity to serve).
