What? Another recovery page? Well, once I was truly clean I never grow tired of hearing how others got and stay clean. I don't mean the show-offs nodding as they chair meetings but the strong, silent folks who have a long-term freedom from hard drugs. We all have so much in common and just as much differences to make it interesting. Every recovery story I hear helps my program, even if it is just a wee bit.
Here is a little bit about me. A hitch in the Army paid for college & then I had it all, including a habit. I lost everything including my freedom. Trying to make amends, build a life, and help you get clean & me STAY clean! Long-time MCSE. PROUD member of the KISS Army since 1976. I am writing about staying off of hard drugs and out of trouble.
From the gate, I want to thank the VA and everyone who stuck with me, seeing a value in me that I did not recognize. IF you are a veteran, call your local VA or 1-800-622-2255. The program is strict but it works IF you are willing. Non-Vets, drop me a note and get thee to a meeting. There IS hope, I am living proof of that, one day at a time, you CAN stay clean!
This is a new hub but I will be linking and following the other interesting recovery hubs. IF you are using, stop just for a day. Go get a homegroup, and a sponsor. That day can turn into a week. That week becomes a month. Next thing you know, you are getting a 'glow-in-the-dark' NA keytag :-)
BTW I am living proof of a die hard user being able to stay clean. I am not the poster child for success. Indeed, I am pretty much one bad week from homelessness. That's OK, as long as I stay clean. God meets us halfway as long as we are trying our very best. I had someone who was allegedly in recovery clean me out. Not just my stuff but a HUGE package of easy to sell stuff that I was supposed to return to a friend that very afternoon. To this day, I am suffering because of it. As hurt, sad, & ashamed as I am, it is still no reason to 'go back out'. Him & his wife may never forgive me for putting that stuff in jeopardy, but my relationship with them damn sure will NEVER heal if I use.
