I was born in Sri Lanka and then moved to the UK, where I have been resident since. I live in the county of Kent, also known as the Garden of England. In close proximity to London, but far enough from the busy city atmosphere, Kent is a very beautiful place to live.
I am an Electronics Engineer by trade. I am passionate about engineering research and the potential it offers to develop the world to make it a better place to live in. I believe the Internet and its ability to connect the world and people of different nations and cultures is living proof of it.
The world of Investments and Economics is a subject which I get very excited about. Following the greats like Benjamin Graham, Warren Buffet and George Soros and studying their investment strategies and outlook on life is intriguing.
Travelling for me is very enjoyable. I like learning about cultures and matters that are unique to these cultures. From temples and traditions in the Far East to the modernised way of life in the West, there is so much to learn.
Been born in Sri Lanka and then immigrating to the UK, has exposed me to interesting cultural differences. Going from the religious family orientated society of Sri Lanka, to the economically driven and politically correct English society, it is amazing to see how two such contrasting societies could still be right. I am a fan of both.
When it comes to sport, cricket stands out as my favourite. I do like following other sports purely due to the competitive nature it creates within a person. I think competition is good for the development of a person. However, you must become competitive with respect to your competition.
I hope to share my experiences in life by writing some hopefully interesting Hubpages covering many materials relating to topics described above and below. I hope you enjoy reading my Hubs and your thoughts and comments are always welcomed and highly appreciated.

Sri Lanka
Once a British Colony, famous for its brands of tea is also known as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean”. Throughout history Sri Lanka has had many names including Thambapanni, Taprobane, Serendib and Ceylon.
Sri Lanka is a small island located in Asia, just below India. It is also known as the “Teardrop of India”. The main residents are Sinhalese and Tamil. The main religion of Sri Lanka is Buddhism. The country has many wonderful beaches, beautiful waterfalls, wildlife parks and has a rich historical background.

Garden Of England
Better known to most of us as Kent, the Garden of England is situated in the South East Corner of England and is the gateway to the Mainland of Europe. Kent is full of rich history, starting with the city of Canterbury and its Cathedral and St Augustine’s Abbey, both highly influential in the start of Church of England.
Many Castles can be found in the county, including Leeds Castle, the home of King Henry the VIII, famous for his six wives. Other beautiful castles in Kent include Hever Castle, Chiddingstone Castle and Dover Castle.

Investing
A question people always asks me is, why does the stock market sound attractive until you start investing in it, then it all goes downwards. For me, the answer is simple. It is because when we invest, our human instinct takes over. We want to buy when everything sounds great. That usually means, the stock prices can only go one way and that is down.
This is why we should look to role models like Ben Graham, Warren Buffet and UK’s own Anthony Bolton. They are masters of Contrarian Investing and Value Investing. In simple, overcome your emotions and buy stocks and shares when everything sounds bad. If you buy when everything sounds really bad, then it can only go one way, and that is up.
Seems a very simple rule, but how many of us have the courage to stick to this rule when all the so called experts around us are forecasting nothing but doom and gloom.
Sports
Been born in Sri Lanka, you have to say cricket is in your blood. I follow both Sri Lanka and England. In recent years the sport has been modernised to allow more appeal. The T20 game is such a modernisation with a game lasting less than 3 hours and containing cheerleaders and music. I bet WG Grace is turning in his grave in disgust, but WG, the game needs it. Although T20 is great, I do very much enjoy the 5 day technical game also.
I do follow Football (Soccer) and Motor Racing in my spare time. I am a fan of Tottenham Hotspur, the pride of London. As for motor racing, I have to go with the two British boys driving the McLarens. Maybe, next year Lewis will calm down and become the true talent he is.
