Thomas Kuriakose, MD, is a physician based in New York, NY, committed to advancing pediatric healthcare with a focus on critical care. He is a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellow at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. In 2022, he completed his pediatric residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center through the Boston Combined Residency Program. His career has been shaped by a consistent dedication to improving health outcomes for underserved populations.

Thomas earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Economics from a college in Massachusetts. After graduation, he joined a teaching program in Mississippi, where he spent three years teaching Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry, Statistics, and SATP Biology at a high school. His students regularly exceeded performance benchmarks in state testing. Alongside his teaching role, he served as an assistant coach for the track and field and soccer teams, guiding several students to state-level recognition. These early roles reinforced his passion for youth development and played a key part in his decision to pursue medicine.

Thomas went on to earn a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction before enrolling in medical school in New Jersey. While in medical school, he co-founded a mentorship program for adolescents with HIV and was actively involved in a student-run free clinic, where he later served as a director. He also contributed to the launch of a healthcare team training initiative focused on patient safety and collaboration. His efforts earned him distinction for community service.

During his residency, he participated in equity-centered educational programs and contributed to developing training initiatives. As a fellow, his research addresses communication challenges in pediatric intensive care, focusing on acute respiratory failure. He also led the establishment of Health Equity Rounds within his department.

Thomas continues to contribute to medical education, advocacy, and research. His work includes leading seminars, presenting at conferences, and authoring abstracts that explore communication and equity in care.
