For 29 years I was an "Advanced Life Support Paramedic" and I enjoyed the challenge of responding to all kind of emergencies. We were sent to the most serious calls, where people were critically ill with heart-attacks, breathing problems, diabetic or allergic reactions - or a host of other medical emergencies.

We also responded to emergency "trauma" calls, where our patients had been shot, stabbed, beat up, or injured in car accidents or industrial mishaps.

There were also the overdoses - and childbirths - and psychiatric emergencies.

It was a hard job, but one with new challenges every shift - and certain moments of satisfaction mixed in with some stress and disappointment (the disappointment of seeing someone die in spite of your best effort to save them).

I enjoyed this job up until the day when it ended without warning.

The story of what happened that day - and my new occupation - is outlined on my website - and on one of my HUBS.

But before you even go there, I'll tell you what I found to do for a new "occupation".

During the several years since the accident that ended my career, I found one thing in particular that helped fill some of the days that suddenly seemed pretty empty.

It was spending time with my grandchildren.

I write stories about the fun, happy, fulfilling, hilarious, and sometimes tear-jerking times I enjoy spending with my grandchildren.

I invite you to enjoy reading these stories of - "Days in the life of a grandpa"!
