59Wyatt Mould studied to become a journeyman lineman at Northwest Lineman College (NLC) in Meridian, Idaho. Founded in 1993, NLC is a private vocational school that provides technical education for careers in the power delivery field. After completing his coursework, he entered the IBEW Mountain States Line Constructors Joint Apprenticeship and Training (MSLCAT) Program, which blends classroom lessons with on-the-job experience. Through this program, he developed his knowledge of live-line work, system troubleshooting, and high-voltage maintenance while deepening his understanding of electrical theory and safety practices.
He worked on power lines throughout Montana, Colorado, Utah, and Texas for three years, traveling with crews to restore power and expand electrical systems. His time in the field gave him hands-on experience in various terrains and weather conditions, helping him strengthen his adaptability, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, which are vital in linework.
At NLC, he completed an intensive 15-week pre-apprentice course combining theory and practical training. He studied electrical systems, power delivery, circuits, voltage, and current, and gained hands-on experience in pole climbing, conductor handling, splicing, and safe equipment operation. Safety training was a significant focus, covering high-voltage awareness, fall protection, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment.
As a lineman, he built, repaired, and maintained electrical transmission and distribution systems, working on overhead and underground lines, poles, transformers, and switches. His duties often involved stringing and repairing conductors, inspecting equipment, and restoring service under demanding conditions such as storms or extreme weather.
He has worked as an excavator with Borden Excavating in St. Calimesa, California, for over three years. He installs new water mains and services customer meter boxes in this role. During this period, he also completed a two-year construction laborer apprenticeship through AGC in Riverside, California, where he gained experience in trenching, grading, pipe installation, and heavy equipment operation.
He actively volunteers at Carol’s Kitchen in Riverside, California, where he has donated over 100 hours serving hot meals to those in need. Guided by his Christian faith and strong family values, he enjoys golf, motorcycling, camping, pool, skateboarding, and staying active—qualities that reflect the dedication and steady character of Wyatt Mould.
