Death Of Affection By Injection

Updated on October 4, 2009

Death of injection.

I watched his eyes
ever so trusting
gaze up at me
eyes full of love
now glazed beneath
an anesthetic film
I stroked his head
and whispered
sounds of calm
to gently guide him
to his long sleep
a feeble wiggle of his legs
a sad, and then
his old eyes closed
all trust
removed by death
but love remained
to suffer with me
through long moments
while his pink tongue
that once licked me
sharing puppy kisses
turned completely black
and instantly it signaled
he was gone.
I cradled him
with difficulty
his body then
all soft, and loose
a bag of mud
where once swift muscles
carried him in
b o u n d i n g~~~~~leaps~~~~
across bright fields
of endless dandelions
I buried him beneath
a willow tree
where he used to
love to lay
he'll lay there now
until again
we take long walks
and race the winds
on heaven's shores
where best friends
never die.

Pets love us when humans can't, won't, don't.

Amazingly touching! I've been there - and you describe it perfectly.

MFB; Sweet, sweet departure of an old friend by an old friend. I felt the emotion behind the heart felt rendering of love that will always lay in the cradle of your memory of this soul you held so close. love and peace .. aloha
