Judy worked in insurance for many years before discovering how much she liked writing short stories on HubPages. Loves Rhodesian Rdgbks.

Julou Dogs' Scary Halloween

On Halloween night, Judy decided to take her dogs, Chip, Ginger, Caesar and Tsin'tia for a walk. The moon was bright, but it kept disappearing behind clouds, making the tree-lined road a little spooky.

Suddenly, from behind a tree, a cat sprang out, hissing and spitting, with all its hair standing on end. But these dogs were big, brave Rhodesian Ridgebacks and they were not frightened by the cat. They laughed big dog laughs and snorted big dog amused snorts and the cat slunk off into the trees.

A little further along the road, a monkey ran out making strange loud noises while waving its arms in the air. The Ridgebacks were not frightened, though. They barked, "Go away silly monkey! You can't scare us. We are big, brave Rhodesian Ridgebacks." The monkey, seeing that it could not spook the dogs or their owner, left the road quietly with arms hanging down by its sides.

The Ridgebacks and their mama Judy walked further along. They noticed it was getting darker as the clouds started to join up above their heads. Suddenly a misty shape drifted out of the trees moaning and groaning at the little company. It was a GHOST! But the big red dogs were not afraid. They snorted amused snorts at the ghost and walked right through it. The ghost gave a last pathetic moan and drifted off into the sky.

Further on yet, a skeleton jumped out at the dogs, rattling his bones. A HUGE mistake! The dogs took a look at all those bones and the poor skeleton had to climb up a tree in a HURRY to avoid being a snack!

At almost the end of the walk, a big scary witch on a broom swooped down low to frighten Judy and her brave companions. But instead of running away, the dogs bounced and barked and tried to catch the witch's broom as she flew by. "Whew!" she said. "From now on I'm only going to scare LITTLE dogs!"

As Judy and her pooches turned back towards home, all the clouds which had been drifting slowly closer together, suddenly spat out a huge bolt of lightening followed by a VERY LOUD clap of thunder! The dogs did not pay any attention to the noise because they were big, grown up Ridgebacks and lights and noise did not bother them.

But all of a sudden, GREAT BIG drops of rain began to fall from the sky. The dogs looked at the rain drops, then at each other and then at Judy. As if they had one mind together, the big, brave Ridgebacks yelped in horror as they began to get WET! They took off like a race car headed for home with mom Judy barely hanging on to the leashes. They tucked tail and ran like the wind until they were home and in their house again. Then they all laid down in front of the fireplace on rugs and sighed in contentment because they were home and warm and most of all DRY!

Happy Halloween! BOO!!
