Judy worked in insurance for many years before discovering how much she liked writing short stories on HubPages. Loves Rhodesian Rdgbks.

Karelian Bear Dogs originated in northern Europe, mainly in Finland. They are related to other breeds develped in that area. They are hunting dogs, used to hunt small game as well as the bear hunting which gave them the name Karelian Bear Dog.

The Korelian now is a black and white coated dog although in early years many other shades were present in the coats.

Karelians are used in some US parks which have bear problems from time to time.

They are also great family dogs but must be watched around small children who may be hurt by accident and around other small animals as the dogs may see them as something to be hunted.
