Paws Great Adventures
This is my very first attempt at writing a blog. After watching Julie/Julia, I thought why not. I've been toying with the idea of writing a children's story about the cat that came to live with my parents a year and a half ago. I was visiting and my Mom had said a stray cat had been around. He was very thin and very bedraggled looking. Considering what he looked like the first time I saw him and what he looks like now, the change is amazing. Any way, I thought a blog might be a good way to start. So here goes nothing!
One of my first memories of Paws, I was sitting on the step and he jumped in my lap. He poked his head into my jacket and started purring. He stole my heart and has never let it go.
Once Paws was coaxed into the house, he made himself to home in quite a hurry. In the beginning he seemed quite content to limit himself to the first floor. Once I introduced him to the circular stairway running from the basement to the second floor, he found a new type of exercise. He loves running up and down and will reach out and bop you on the head if you walk under a step he is sitting on.
Paws has developed quite a particular appetite. He loves roasted chicken from Meijer's and butter pecan ice cream. He always leaves the pecans behind though. He is served his meals on special white plates. He also likes tuna fish quite well (the Star Kiss packets). He supplements all of this with his hunting abilities. I have learned that you don't get between him and his prey. He is very focused and will run full out after a chipmunk.

Paws has quite the collection of toys and loves to play with them all. He has a wide variety of mice, balls, birds and a tunnel to run through and hide in when he wants to jump out at the innocent passerby. He's been known to have toys fall down the basement stairs and when in the mood will carry them back upstairs. He loves to run down the long hallway with his tail crooked and dive into one of the bedrooms. No wonder he has to take such long naps during the day!

My daughter made her Grandmother an afghan as a gift. She had extra yarn left over and decided to make Paws his own smaller one. He has taken over both of them. He sleeps on the big one and plays with the smaller one. He will run and dive into and go sliding across the floor. He burrow under and pretend you can't see him. Then he will grab at whatever moves by him. He is always a busy little cat.
Paws is a very busy cat. He has a lot of work to do each day. He helps with the laundry. He makes sure my Mom gets all the clothes into the dryer and helps her put them away. He checks out the closets and the drawers and makes sure each item is put away in the right place. Paws also patrols the property, making sure each bird, squirrel and chipmunk is behaving according to his standards. When deliveries are made he will watch over the work and make sure it is done correctly. It's no wonder at the end of the day when my Mom goes to the kitchen to make dinner, Paws insists on being fed first. Hasn't he earned the right?
Paws has been a very busy boy this week. He's helped burn boxes, feed the birds and organize extension cords in the garage. He loves to jump up on the roof of the car and then jump up on the opened garage door. Then he can get to the rafters in the garage and look down on his kingdom. He's been very busy playing with his toy mice and one even ended up in his water dish. Maybe he thought it needed to take a bath.
I visited Paws this past weekend and found him in fine form! He was very affectionate during this visit and jumped in my lap a number of times. He had visited my bedroom several times since my last visit. He even had turned down the bed for me by pulling the comforter back. It's not everyone who is as fortunate as I am in getting this kind of attention. I got to see him play with his new toy mice and took some new pictures. I hope everyone enjoys them.
I'm King of the World!
All in a Day's Work!
Paws has plenty to do during the day and night. He loves to check out the inside of closets and peek out to see what everyone is up to. He loves to use his new scratching post and will not let one of his mice sit on the top of it for very long. At the end of the day, he sits on guard and makes sure nothing unusual comes near the house!
I have it on good authority that Paws has been a very curious cat this week. He has this talent of knowing when a door is being opened anywhere in the house. He has been known to get into the dishwasher when it's open and no one is looking. He also had to supervise a couple of deliveries this week not to mention helping get the mail. It's something every day for him and he takes his duties seriously. He is picky about company. It's not just anyone that he will visit with, he has his favorites.
Paws had quite the weekend. He was in full protection cat mode on Friday. A man came to replace the garage door. What he didn't know when he opened the garage was Paws sitting on the step to the house. He took an instant dislike to the man and started making noises unheard of before. It certainly got the man's attention and my Mom who was in the house. When he came into the house after the job was done, Paws wouldn't take his eyes off of him from his perch on the stairs. The repairman said, that cat sure doesn't like me! And he really didn't.
On Saturday, Paws had his regular appointment at the vet to have his nails trimmed. He really doesn't like riding in cars, but he sure does love checking out the packages when you return from shopping. Paw prints are a common sight!
Aren't I beautiful?
This mouse isn't going to get away from me!
I'm watching you!
I had the privilege of spending the weekend with Paws and family. Paws was quite loving this weekend. He was able to catch up on his rest but still found the time to terrorize his toy mice. He loves to chase them and have them run under the footstool so he can try to dive under it in pursuit. It's not quite high enough for him to get completely under so sometimes he needs a little help in the retrieval process. If a mouse thinks he can get away from Paws by sitting on top of his scratching post, he soon learns the error or his ways but being quickly pounced on!
It's been way too long since I wrote on the blog. I thought I better get back to it and what a better way than to post some news pictures of Paws as he celebrated Christmas this year! Just like a little kid he had more fun with the wrapping than he did with his new presents!
