Animal cruelty, Willie Nelson Saves Horses, Americans Against Horse Slaughter For Horse Meat
Slaughterhouses for horses have been banned in the United States since 2007 when Illinois passed a prohibition. Prior to 2007, horse meat was a significant export to foreign countries such as Italy, Belgium, Japan, Switzerland, Mexico, and France.
Although horses aren't legally being slaughtered for human consumption in the United Sates, tens of thousands of them are being transported each year to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico. The transportation and treatment is brutal, causing the horses great suffering.
Not to mention, meat from slaughtered horses could sicken or kill people who eat it because of antibiotics and other medicines that are given to the horses. The thought of people eating horse meat sickens me.
Until the United States Congress passes legislation banning horse slaughter into law, American horses will still continue to fall prey to this detestable foreign-driven industry. Without a federal law the threat still remains that horse slaughter plants can set up shop in US states that have no law against it.
Efforts are underway to pass the "American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act" (HR503 and S311) which would establish a permanent ban on horse slaughter and the transportation of horses to slaughter for human consumption.
Horses have played an important role in our American society. It is unthinkable for most Americans to consider eating horse meat. Horses have been our companions and are American icons.
Horses have allowed us to use them for transportation whether on their back or pulling wagons, they have plowed our fields and ran in races. They have been there for us humans through all mankind. Now it is our turn to help them. We all must do our part to end the cruelty

Black Market for Horsemeat?
Hundreds and maybe thousands of our American horses are stolen each year. Horse theives are making quick money stealing our horses and selling them to underground killer buyers and slaughterhouses for quick process. They are killed and processed quickly so it would be hard to trace. This is a disgrace!
