Ten Weirdest Looking Animals

Updated on May 10, 2018

From the large elephant to the adorable cuddlefish animals vary in shape and size, attitude and animal instinct. Here we shall go through Ten of the Weirdest animals in the world, can be looks or something about them but here are ten weird things.

#10, The Aye-Aye: This creature is a type of Lemur and is native to Madagascar, also looks like my sister before her morning cup of coffee. The lemur searches for food by tapping on different kinds of trees in order to find grubs, with its unusual middle finger it pulls bugs out from holes burrowed into the trees by its slanted incisors. It is said to be endangered and is a nocturnal animal. They like to be high up in the trees where they sleep, mate and eat but will sometimes come down to the ground. Tanks to its ears it can use an echo location type ability, it can hear the different of grubs in trees and when tapping the wood with its finger it can also hear the bugs inside.

#9, The Dumbo Octopus: Named after the Disney Cartoon Dumbo thanks to the two ear like fins that are above their eye these beings are just adorable, they are kinda small being around 7.9 inches to 12 inches in length and tend to live around 3-5 years. This goes for all of the 13 recognized species. The Dumbo lives around 3,000 meters or 9,800 feet below the surface, they like to feed on crustaceans and other small creatures for food and use their small ear like fins to swim around the surface floor then bounce on any unsuspecting prey which is then swallowed hole. It has a few predators such as Killer Whales and sharks, though it is in no danger of humans due to its presence in deep waters.

#8, The Babirusa: The Babirusa or Deer Pig is a creature known to live in parts of the Indonesian Islands, it has been listened endangered. The Babirusa as it grows has its canines enlarged, eventually piercing through its skin and curving upwards towards the forehead though in the different species this might vary from a short or thinner tusk or a different coloration of it. They like tropical rain forests and river banks and unlike many other kinds of boars and pigs due to an absence of a rostral bone it does not dig with its snout unless in swamps or wet mud. They have strong jaws as they are able to crack hard nuts with ease, the males tend to live in solitude while the females will more then likely be seen in packs with the children and other females.

#7, The Yeti Crab: This crustacean had been dubbed "Yeti" due to the white hair like stuff that covers its body, the bristles cover much of its body including its claws and legs. It is usually around 5.9 inches long, the claws contain a certain bacteria that it can use to detoxify things, said to be used to clean whatever comes out of the water vents they tend to live by. Though it has a nickname of Furry Lobster it is more closely related to crabs and hermit crabs then any real lobster. Its eyes lack any real pigment so many come to believe that it is blind, it can feed on bacteria but thought to be more of a carnivore. The Yeti crab was discovered in 2005 so it may still need to be researched a bit.

#6, The Blob Fish: The Blob Fish is a creature that usually lives around 3,800 feet below the oceans surface, it has been named the worlds ugliest animal but it looks more adorable then anything. The Blob Fish has no real muscle, its merely a mass of skin with a density slightly less then water allowing it to float around the seabed with no need for using energy on swimming but instead floats around like a big fella on a pool floaty. It tends to just open its mouth when floating and has any food that floats by be devoured, usually crustaceans. It lives off the coast of Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. It is also kinda small mostly being around 12 inches or less in size. That's what she said.

#5, Japanese Spider Crab: Japan never to be one to be outdone in giant monstrosities has decided to pull out the Spider Crab, a long legged type nightmare. But however despite its mean looking appearance it is a gentle creature, boasting a long width of 18 feet from claw to claw and boasting the longest legs of any arthropod. The creature is said to be a delicacy in Japan. It uses camouflage in order to hide from predators and will even adorn its shell with sponges and other animals, octopuses being one of its greatest predators. Though it may be gentle in nature I am sure any human with arachnophobia would be scared senseless anyways.

#4, The Goblin Shark: Boasting a face only a mother could love the Goblin Shark is said to be a living fossil, one with a long snout and protruding nail like teeth. It can grow around 10-13 feet but can sometimes grow even bigger. They live around 350 feet below the waters surface so generally they pose no threat to humans, hence being called a deep-sea shark. Its flabby body and small fins lead many to believe that the shark is sluggish and when hunting it will repeatedly outstretch its jaws in order to catch prey. A lovely thing to sea in the dark waters.

#3, The Panda Ant: It may look cute and cuddly, its name may bring you the images of cuddly animals and soft fur, but this is a wasp. Yes the Mutillidae are a family of over 3,000 species of wasps and which the females tend to be wingless. They have a very powerful sting which has many people giving them the nickname Cow Killer, they are very dangerous despite their looks. They can be found all over the world, 400 species can be found in North America alone, so be careful when picking up any soft and cuddly looking ants can they will hurt.

#2, The Glaucus Atlanticus: This blue divine looking creature is a type of slug who uses camouflage in order to blend in. It uses the blue side of its body to face upwards and blending in with the watery surface and the silver side of its body which faces downwards in order to blend in with the underside of the water surface. It has nematocysts under its skin which uses for protection and even for humans it can be very painful and potentially dangerous. There has been evidence shown that it occurs throughout many tropical waters and has even been caught in the waters of South Africa and Peru. So though it is a beautiful and memorizing creature it is still very dangerous, much like my ex.

#1, The Blue Parrotfish: The Blue Parrotfish is a creature that likes to live in tropical waters and shallow reefs, in the western Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea is where it has been spotted frequently. The blue fish spends much of its time in search for food, using its beak in order to scrape algae and other organisms from rocks and is even capable of breaking rocks into sand using its pharyngeal teeth. They weight about twenty pounds and can grow to usually a maximum of 1.2 meters, they are born with blue scales and a yellow mark on their heads but as they age the yellow marking disappears. Thanks to the color of their skin they are able to blend in fairly well with the blue waters of the tropics pretty well.
