Good Cat Food For Cats

Updated on February 12, 2014

Cat Food that's Good For Cats

There are lots of brands of cat food on the market, but which is the best for your cat? Are the name brands the best? The well-known pet food companies do a lot of research to produce the best pet food that is nutritional and 100 % complete. Cheaper pet food might not be of the highest quality ingredients that one might want for their cat. It is a good idea to check the list of ingredients on the package before buying the product. Name-brands are probably better than off-brand cat food as far as quality is concerned. Cats need protein, and protein should be listed as the first ingredient.

Cats will need to drink plenty of water if they only eat dry cat food. Dry cat food has less water, whereas canned cat food has much more.. A cat does not need as much water if they eat dry food and canned food. Cats should always have fresh clean water available to keep them hydrated.

Cat and Kitten Food

Kittens have different nutritional needs than adult cats while older cats have nutritional needs for their stage of life. Kittens need high quality kitten food, while adult cats need high quality adult cat food. Cats are carnivores and need to eat meat. Dry cat food with beef, chicken, and seafood are great sources for protein. Canned cat food that has vegetables like rice and greens are good for cats. Cat need taurine in their diet to keep them from going blind, and from having other health problems related to lack of taurine in a cat's diet.

Cats should never be fed dog food. Dog food is not for cats as it is formulated for dogs only. Dog food does not have enough nutrients essential for a cat's diet. If a cat is fed dog food the cat could have many health problems, including blindness and other health problems which is not good for pet cats.

Some dry cat foods are more expensive than others. There are the name-brands that are not too expensive and they are more affordable than the more expensive brands. Some canned cat food is more expensive than other canned cat food. Cats that are finicky might only eat certain kinds of canned cat food like Fancy Feast or any similar type of canned cat food.

The best cat foods are probably the name-brands that are of the highest quality ingredients and are 100% nutrient complete. The cat food package should say that it is 100% nutritionally complete on the front of the package and hopefully it is good for your cat to eat.
