Cats. Four Things I Know About Them.
Why do cats fascinate us so much? The web is filled with cute pictures, videos and funny stories about cats. We can't get enough of them. Yes, they are cute and very photogenic but is that the only reason?
As a cat lover who has never lived in a house without one or more cats, I still find it hard to understand the phenomenon. But below I list some reasons I believe cats have always been popular.
1).Humans have been fascinated by cats throughout history, the ancient Egyptians even worshipped them as gods and even paid for them to be mummified after death.
2).Cats have become the most popular pet in the world. Historically they were valued for their ability to control pests such as mice and rats but are more commonly used as companion animals.
3). Cats are an easy pet to keep, they don't need to be taken for a walk and are easy to litter train, as a general rule they are not fussy eaters, and unless you have a long-haired breed they need little grooming as they keep themselves clean.
4). They sleep for long periods of time and are adept at making their wants and needs to be known. If a cat meows near a door it wants to go out, if it stares at its dish it wants food, they are uncomplicated in that respect.

Cats Give Endless Entertainment.
My own cats provide endless entertainment, no matter what they are doing be it climbing in boxes, most of which are way too small for them, sitting in spiky bushes, trying to steal my glass of wine. They give me comfort when I am feeling tired or sick, they always seem to know when I am feeling under the weather and will sit by my side or on my lap for hours. A cat purr is very relaxing, it is an almost hypnotic sound and can be very soothing. I just can't imagine what my life would be like without them.
They are endlessly inquisitive creatures and can't resist an open cardboard box or cupboard door, giving plenty of photo opportunities. Which explains the mountain of pictures on the web it doesn't explain how so many people seem to have a camera on them when their cat does something funny or cute. I almost never do, by the time I run and fetch my camera they have lost interest and moved on.
In the last month alone I have not managed to take a picture of my cats doing the following:-
Running through the garden trailing my neighbour's scarf.
Falling out of an upstairs window into a large bush below - don't worry he was fine.
Getting stuck in a pickled egg jar - I got him out first and then thought about taking a picture.
Climbing up my dining room curtain and running along the pole to the other side.
Crawling up my six-foot-tall son's back and then sitting on his head like a Daniel Boone hat.
If I had had the video camera on me they could all be up on YouTube now making me money. The story of my life!
Below are some pictures I did manage to take of my cats, they might not be funny but I do think they are cute, then again, I love my cats so I would think that, wouldn't I.

A Rescue cat.
Our white cat is a rescue cat and is more than a little odd! She finds the strangest places to tuck herself into, from a box inside a box, a laundry bag to a wet towel on a clothes airer.
