Black Cats in the Home
Whatever room you're looking to decorate, there's a black cat item that will fit purrfectly. I think the real problem isn't finding the right gift, but rather limiting yourself to just one thing. There's a lot of cute options!
Black Cat Stuffed Animals
Probably the most obvious choice for a black cat decoration is a stuffed animal. They're cute and cuddly and perfect for any age. You can drape them around the house at Halloween or keep them around all year to show off your love for this misunderstood animal. They're also a great gift for kids so that they learn from an early age that there's nothing scary about black cats.
While some people consider black cats to be bad luck, many cultures think they are actually good luck! In particular, sailors often kept them as pets on boats in order to bring luck to the voyage.
History of Black Cats
Black cats are incredibly misunderstood creatures. They were given a bad name in the middle ages when people associated then with witchcraft. Cats in general were also thought to be witches' familiars, but black cats were a particular target.
One of the main reasons this came about was because many of the ally cats in Europe were fed by old women who were simply being nice to these strays and enjoyed their company. It was even believed that witches could turn into cats. This rumor was perpetuated by the story that a father and son were throwing rocks at a black cat in order to get it out of their path. The cat ran into a nearby cottage. The next day, the old woman who lived in that cottage was bruised, so people naturally assumed that she had actually been the cat.
Even in modern society, many people still believe black cats are bad luck. They are often the last to be chosen for adoption at shelters. The idea that they could be bad luck simply because of the color of their fur is silly and outdated. If you, or someone you know, is looking to adopt a kitty, consider adopting a black cat. Of course, in the end you need to pick the personality that fits you best, whatever color the fur, but make sure to spend some time with those midnight felines to see if they're the kitty for you!
