Hope Saidel is co-owner of Golly Gear, a bricks-and-mortar and online shop featuring fun, affordable and practical small dog products

Adoring and adorable companion - Italian Greyhounds!

According to the Italian Greyhound Club of America description of IGs: "Their greatest joy is to be with you. Once you aquire an Italian Greyhound you will never be alone again. If you like your privacy, the Italian Greyhound may not be the breed for you. This breed is not content to lie at your feet - they demand your attention!"

Our shop, Golly Gear, specializes in fun, affordable and practical products especially for small dogs. We know how difficult it can be to find the right fit for your Italian Greyhound and our knowledgeable staff is delighted to help you find just what you need, with the right style, size, and fit for your adorable Iggie.

Winter warmth for IGs

We know how hard it is to find properly-fitting attire for Italian Greyhounds, so we were delighted when we found the ChillyBuddy Winter Jacket. During the winter months when we host IG Meet-ups in our shop we always make sure we have plenty on hand - some lucky Iggies are always wearing their new coats when they leave.

Snuggly soft - indoors or out

We just found the Stretch Fleece Jacket and we're so glad we did. Super-soft, stretchy material is so cozy we wish the manufacturer made people-sized versions. Made in America of recycled polyester, the Stretch Fleece Jacket is generously-sized and stretchy enough to fit even deep-chested dogs like Italian Greyhounds. Machine wash and dry, available in three colors and six sizes.

Hound Collar

Hounds of any size have special needs when it comes to the collars they wear. A hound's collar should be wide and soft to protect their long, vulnerable trachea. The Hound Collar by RC Pet Products is practical and stylish for your little dog. A martingale design with brass hardware, the Hound Collar features a ribbon of color on the outside and soft fleece on the inside.

Teddy's chest is wide, rather than deep like an IGs, but you can see the comfortable, custom fit.

PerfectFit Harness

With the custom-fit design of a step-in type harness and the wide, soft straps characteristic of a vest-type harness, the PerfectFit Harness by Gooby may be the best of both worlds for Italian Greyhounds. It even features a v-neck design for a smoother fit around the dog's slender neck.

The straps on this harness are faux-suede, without any hard nylon webbing to cut into an IG's fur or irritate his sensitive skin. Many of the IGs who attend the Chicago area IG meet-up here in the shop have purchased this harness and the feedback has been completely positive.

EZ Harness

The EZHarness Set could be the answer to your prayers! It's a padded step-in harness that's easily and almost infinitely adjustable. The harness is padded, with felt toward your pup, and shaped for your little dog's comfort. Plus, the 4-foot leash is attached so you won't be fumbling with clasps, snaps and collar rings. Each color has a colorful coordinating ribbon sewn on the outside. And, of course, harness and leash colors match.

Pawz Disposable Dog Boots

Pawz is the answer for protecting your little dog's paws against snow melt, lawn chemicals, liquids, soil or sand. Pawz boots are made of natural rubber and are so thin your little dog can feel the ground, providing a sense of security. Pawz boots are waterproof.

Pawz boots are easy to put on your dog's little paws without straps or elastic. Just expand Pawz with your fingers and place on the paw, or use a tube to hold the boot while you hold your dog's foot. Pawz boots are reusable and disposable.

Luxury Harness & Leash Set

These are the most elegantly crafted harness and leash sets we've ever seen. They feel like suede and have the classy silver-tone closures and clasps.

The Luxury Harness by Gooby is secure and practical, too. Easy to put on, this is a step-in harness. The two cross straps (5/8 inch wide) are independently adjustable (from about 12 to 17 inches) for a secure, custom fit for your dog. The matching 50 inch-long leash is included.

Lucy is a lucky girl - she has you! As far as leg protection - you may want to try cutting the toe seam on children's socks and slide them onto her legs. Pawz disposable boots are the only dog boots we've found that actually stay on, and if warmth is an issue for Lucy, you can try using infants' socks underneath the waterproof Pawz.

Lucy is our girl. Only 8 and having some health issues. Started out with Pancreatitis and has had it effect joints and heart. She has spurts of being back to normal, then has issues for a bit. cortisone helps, not a permanent fix. Massages and love are the best cure. We have two cats that treat her like she is the queen and are always able to somehow know when she is on the downside. They cuddle with her and keep her warm. We are thankful every day that she is still with us. Our Old English is like her furry sweater when they snuggle together. Now just trying to find boots that will protect her skinny legs and stay on for the protection she now needs. She hates not being able to go outside, even for a few minutes.

My girl is Ginger. She looks very similar to the little boy in the video. A blue fawn. I got her last Jan when she was only 2 months old. In Nov she will be 1, so she's still a little bit of a puppy!

@anonymous: I consulted with a friend who has two IGs - one about 12 lbs. and the other slightly bigger at 13.5 lbs. We think the best choice would be the IGo2 Rolling Carrier - it's tall enough in the upright position so your dog can sit comfortably, and cozy enough for your pup can curl up for a good nap when it's horizontal under the seat. You'll find it here: http://www.gollygear.com/car_IGo.html

      Safe travels!

We love dogs and I believe greyhounds have a lovely gentle nature. You might like to have a look at www.puppytales.com.au for some articles on dogs.

@anonymous: We have 2 brats of our own. I've found that if you take them for a walk that they will probably not like all the enviroment around them and that tends to make them go right to you for protection. Works good for getting their trust!

We love Iggies. We show them too. They are all adorable. Our Lilly has just had her first litter. The little "squeakers" are coming along great. All the best wishes from Johannesburg, South Africa. :-)

We lost our IG over a year ago he was ten yrs old. Finally ready to get another one but only had a budget of 400.00. We decided to take in two rescues and have spent well over our budget for teeth extractions and another one to go so should reach over a grand or so. But whatever time these two little girls have left, they will have the best of everything. They still will not come to us and its only been 4 months, but I know it will happen. Their kennel is never shut and their food is made weekly. They have a wardrobe of sweaters. A little pawstep happened today, they took cheese from my hand outside of the kennel. I felt like I had to call and tell everyone. Kinda like when your baby takes that first step! Okay I feel better now that I have shared. Have a wonderful night!

I don't have an IG - but I have 3 Lurchers (sighthound crosses - very popular in the UK and Ireland). I think Italian Greyhounds are the most adorable, elegant little dogs and I'd love to have one if I had the room! This lens has been blessed by this Squid Angel as part of the "Back To School Bus Trip"!
