    There are many species (birds, lizards, etc) where the females will lay eggs regardless of whether they have been fertilized by a male of the species.

    For instance, chickens lay eggs even if there is no rooster.  However, none of them will ever hatch into chicks.

    I guess I need to be more specific.  We have two Gecko's.
    Does that make a difference???
