As the Hamster Wheel Turns
Can't Keep a Good Hamster Down
I realize this hub will probably only appeal to a limited audience. Well, honestly that one lonesome audience member is probably just me. Nonetheless, I've decided to bore readers with hamster stories.
The Great Escape Artist
This is my hamster Bella. Yes, she is named after Bella from Twilight. She is a hamster; she is nocturnal and bites just like a vampire. It makes sense.
So this is what she does best: escape. It is her thing. She escapes all the time. I've had to double lock the doors on her cage using keychains. One time, she even figured how to pry open a lock and squeeze through the bars. She is quite talented. She especially loves to escape when I have company staying over for the weekend, such as my parents or one of my friends. Bella does not understand that she scares people. After all, she is a rodent. She does not understand that not everyone finds her activities adorable.
Hide and Seek
The most interesting moments after the big escapes involve finding Bella. Sometimes I simply find an empty cage and I need to conduct a search. The most interesting place I've ever found her was in a shoe in my closet. I was most afraid that day because it took so long to find her. Her usual hiding spot is under one of my dressers. Sometimes I've lost a sock or two behind the drawers, but Bella is always kind enough to drag them out for me.
One night I woke to hear a horrible scratching sound coming from my bathroom. It sounded like nails down a chalkboard. It was Bella. She was trying to claw her way up my shower curtain to get in my bathtub. I assume she could smell the orange scented shower gel and thought it was something to eat. Never a dull moment!
Big Wheel Keep on Turnin'
Another one of Bella's favorite activites is running on the wheel or in the hamster ball. She is quite the runner. She has gone through a number of wheels already (she is 2 years old) since she is a big girl and tends to outgrow them. The wheel she has now is relatively quiet compared to most. I hardly notice it anymore. Since it is too quiet for her now, she likes to throw food or wood chips into it before going for a spin just so I know how much she is running. It is only fair; she is such a great runner and she deserves a compliment every now and then.
Bella
If anyone else has a hamster and wants to message me about their hamster, feel free. I understand this hub is probably not for everyone, but I am hoping other fans of rodents will enjoy it. I also had a Chinese Dwarf Hamster named Daisy a couple of years ago; she was 3 years old when she passed away. If anyone has hamster advice or questions, let me know. I am no expert, but I can try!
