Make a Cat Bed
Ideas for Cat Beds You Can Make
Modern Cat reader, Melissa, upcycled a vintage tv set into this incredibly awesome cat bed. Of all the cool diy cat bed ideas online, this is by far my very favorite so of course I had to lead off with it.
On this page you'll find more inspiring ideas for cat beds you can make for a favorite feline companion. Homeless animals in animal shelters and animal rescues need a place to sleep too, so you'll find there are several diy cat bed styles suitable for keeping those cats comfy while they are looking for their new home.

Sew a Cat Bed
I sew these simple cat cage mats for bedding and donate to my local Hawaiian Humane Society. They are made to size and fit the bottom of the metal wire cages to keep the kitties comfy when they aren't playing in the Cat House. I've published a tutorial here.

This is an easy project for anyone just starting in crochet. Fabric is torn into 1" wide strips and double knotted together at ends. Roll into a large ball to start. Go here for a free tutorial to learn how to cut an old sheet into one long continuous fabric strip to be rolled into a ball for crochet.
Use a Size Q crochet hook to create this very quick and comfy cat bed.....
Crochet Directions
To make a soft and chunky rectangular cat bed (like the one shown in progress) that can either be folded in half to fit into a Rubbermaid 12 Qt tub OR laid out flat if preferred, begin with chain 18.
OR if a different sized cat bed is preferred, simply chain an even amount of chains until desired width.
Row 1: Single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook, *chain 1, skip chain space, single crochet in next chain space; Repeat from * across, single crochet in last chain space.
Row 2: chain 1, turn; Single crochet in 2nd chain space from the hook, *chain 1, single crochet in each chain space of previous row all the way to the end of the row.
Row 3 - Row 18*
*Repeat Row 2 until desired length, bind off. Note: Bind off the crochet cat bed by finishing and starting with long fabric strips which can be woven through the finished piece using the crochet hook.
