Nellie - My Sister's Tuxedo Cat

Updated on March 5, 2014

Meet Nellie!

Nellie was your classic black and white cat, the kind with the white on the chest like a tuxedo. She shared her home with Annie and Olive and their humans (Karen and Chhaya).

At ten years of age, Nellie's health began to fail. She took that last trip to the vet where he did what he could to help her. It was no use. Nellie died today. This webpage is a tribute to Nellie.

I'm a Cat Lover

A Little about Me

I live in the Midwest in a 1918 Foursquare house shared with my handsome cats and my college-age daughter.

It was in 2000 that we bought the house and sweet Nellie was already a year old when we moved in.

Besides Nellie, there was Annie and Olive. More recently, my daughter acquired a new cat, Charlie, who keeps the other two in a whirl.

Sweet, bossy Nellie. We're going to miss her so much. We'd had her for 10 years

Oh yes, I actually breed them and have one in the latest litter. They are magnificent animals and just perfect for indoor pets. Great lens and sorry about your loss. Unfortunately our animals are only with us for a short time. Well done.

@Debbi Craton: Thanks, Debbi. We added a new kitten at Christmas, so we have 3 cats again, but Nellie had her own personality and her own place in our hearts.

So sorry to hear of Nellie's passing. I still miss my Norma. It's hard losing a pet.

@SusanDeppner: Thanks, Susan. Nellie never really recovered from smoke inhalation from being in the house during our house fire. The vet had been treating her with steroid shots, but finally she just couldn't keep going on. We added a new kitten to our crew last Christmas, but sure miss Nellie, who thought she was in charge. (I guess she probably was!)

Oreo is our tuxedo cat. She's 20 years old now and as bossy as ever, but her memory seems to be failing, she's been deaf for a few years, and she's developed a couple of health issues. Overall, though, she's doing quite well for her age. I'm so sorry for the loss of your Nellie, especially at such a young age. I enjoyed the tribute page!

@verymary: It's so hard to let them go, isn't it? I'm so sorry for the loss of your dear Sam. Thank you for the blessing.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Nellie. We lost our dearly dearly beloved cat Sam on New Year's Eve :( -- it was so hard, even though he was almost 18 and had been in poor health for quite some. We have 2 kittens who cheer us up, but we still miss Sam a lot. *blessing* to you for doing this page!

@Sara Krentz: Thanks for visiting my lens, Moonbeam. Yes, it's hard to say good-bye to our special friends, isn't it?

What a sweet tribute. I'm a cat lover too, and it's always so sad to say goodbye to one of them.

@heytoto: Yes, even now I think of her, it was pretty hard watching my daughter come home from college to spend some time with her cat.

We had our black and white kitty for almost 17 years, it was pretty sad when we lost her. Ours would never let us dress her like you did your Nellie :)

You'll remember my two tuxedo cats, Silly Kitty and Krazy Kat. Whenever I saw your Nellie, it reminded me of them. Great cats!

Sweet Nellie was a beautiful big cat. I had a tuxedo kitten for a short time when I was a teenager but it ran away. I found her three months later but some neighbor's claimed it as their own and wouldn't part with her. :)

Yes indeed! Named Whiskers, due to the fact he had a totally black face, with just a bit white on the chin, while each & every one of his whiskers, eyebrows & all, were white! Made for a very dramatic face. He shared my life for 19 years.

So sorry to hear about Nellie... ): She was a lovely kitty and I think you made a great tribute page for her. I've never had a tuxedo cat but I do have a marmalade kitty whom I deeply love so I feel your pain (and your sister's).

Yes I had one. I like that expression Tuxedo cat. It says it all. A cat will good behaviour and stile.
