I enjoy painting fantasy art, going to art shows, creating delicious dishes, being with my grandkids, taking walks, and reading good books.

Give Your Pet a Colorful Polka Dot Bed

Polka dots are lots of fun and your pet deserves some fun too. Polka dots are come in all sorts of colors and sizes. I know that most pets do not really "see" colors, but we see them, so why not have some fun with colors? Polka dots are fun to decorate with and there are many pet beds that will match your home décor. Brown and white polka dots are popular. I really like the pink and white polka dot pet bedding for our family dog, Lily. She is all white and looks like a "princess" on her bed.

Polka dot pet bedding comes in many styles. There are the traditional pet beds, pillows and pads for them to sleep on. The most popular pet bedding is bought for dogs, but cats just LOVE pillows to sleep on. If you have a cat, you know what I mean! Our Miss Kitty just loved to sleep on top of a large pillow. So soft she was thinking. My grandsons have 2 ferrets and they are always lounging around in their polka dot hammocks.

Have fun with polka dot pet bedding!

Why Get Your Pet Their Own Bedding?

5 Great Reasons

Your pet is special and part of your family, so why not have a special place for them to call their own. They really like knowing that they have a place that they can go to sleep and feel safe. An animal instinctively knows that sleeping on your bed, couch and other furniture really is not want you may want.

I know they get on your bed or furniture if they do not have a bed of their own available to them at all times. Plus sleeping on the cold, hard floor or ground can be hard on older pets with aching joints and muscles. Even cats love soft things so having lots of pillows and hammocks for them to sleep in is a great idea.

Here are 5 great reasons to get your pet their own bedding:

1. Keeps your pet off your bed, couch or chair.

2. Supportive for your pet's hips, legs, back.

3. Made out of washable and durable fabrics.

4. Cats and ferrets sleep up to 18 hours a day.

5. Dogs need a place to call their own.

The most popular pet bedding is the ones with just the right amount of stuffing to be soft, but low enough for your pet to climb in and out of easily. Plus I like the bedding that is washable. Many of them come with removable covers so you can toss them in the washer and dryer. It is good to wash your pet's bedding on a regular basis just like we wash our bedding weekly. It helps keep the loose hair and dander down in your home.

Even small animals in cages love soft bedding to call their own. My grandson's ferrets have several hammocks hanging in their large cage. Since they sleep in them so many hours a day, the hammocks are well used. They are washable and washed often.

How Make Your Own Pet Bed

Anyone can make their own polka dot pet bedding even if you don't know how to sew. It is quick and easy to do. Maybe you don't see something online or at the pet store that matches your home décor or you want to decorate to match the fabrics already used in your home. There are lots of fabrics including all types of polka dots that you can find use. Find them at local fabric stores, online or even in the department stores.

My favorite fabric to use that is easy to work with is fleece. It is soft and easy to work with. The raw edges do not ravel like a cotton type fabric. Most patterns call for a strong fabric such as fleece, corduroy, duck or heavy cotton and even flannel. Pets love the feel of fleece to sleep on. Another idea to use for fabric is a sheet. The material is sturdy and you could even buy an extra flat sheet that matches your bedding.

You can find a lot of patterns for pet beds at your local fabric store. The patterns range from super easy to a bit more challenging. If you have never sewn before, I would recommend a pattern such as "Sewing Patterns for Dummies" or Simplicity patterns. Part of the fun in making your own pet bedding is finding the pattern style that suits your pet and picking out a colorful fabric.

Another easy way to make a slip cover or pillow case to cover a pillow. First, purchase a large or king size pillow, measure it using width, length and don't forget height. Depending on how thick the pillow is you will need to add at least one inch all round to fit the pillow. Sew the sides leaving one short end open. So you can wash the pillow case often, use velcro to close the end after the pillow is inserted.

By making your own pet bed, you can pick any color and design fabric that you think your pet may like!
