Rescue a Black Dog, Find Unconditional Love
Adopt One from Natchitoches Hope for Paws
There is nothing more eyecatching than a classy black dog walking on a leash or playing in a yard. Â Black dogs rock! They make a statement.
There are many black dogs (and cats) in shelters today that desperately need forever homes. Natchitoches Hope for Paws has several that are available for adoption, like Trooper the American Straffordshire Terrier and Daphne, the mixed breed who was found near Black Lake.
Let's give these dark and handsome boys and girls a loving home and make the Back in Black campaign a success by changing the future for a pet in black. Not just for the campaign, but throughout the year.
The beautiful big boy above is Trooper and he was up for adoption at NHP. Thanks to a loving family, he has found a forever home, but Natchitoches Hope for Paws still needs your help. Currently their facility is maxed out with available puppies and dogs of all colors.

Daphne was Available for Adoption at NHP

A Black dog's sleek, shining coat glimmering purple hues in the warm sunshine is a sight to behold. A happy black lab playing fetch with his boy brings back fond memories. Black dogs are beautiful, loyal, loving and many are in need of a forever home.
The NHP is looking for good homes for it's black dogs. Shelters all over the U.S. have an abundance of black pets. Why? Experts in the field have several theories. Some say that it is because there are just more black dogs born each year. Others say that there are more black dogs in shelters because many people associate a black animal with superstition or fear. What ever the reason, there are many kind and gentle dogs with dark coats in shelters, that would make a fine addition to a loving family.
Back in Black 2 at a Shelter Near You
Each year, the NHP participates in a nation wide campaign event called Back in Black, Change the Future for a Pet in Black. Their goal is to find good homes for all of their "pets in black". This page features some of the sleek and shiny, beautiful in black, canines from NHP's shelter.
Natchitoches Hope for Paws' Story
A 501c3 Rescue Organization Located in Natchitoches, LA
It all started with a call to help rescue some lab puppies that were dumped in the woods; the rescue mission began with members of the Humane Society and the newly formed Hope for Paws, along with several animal lovers from the general public. Since that rescue, Hope for Paws has found every one of the labs a loving home.
Trooper, Gentle & Loving
Trooper
Our first featured dog is a gentle giant male named Trooper. He is an American Staffordshire Terrier and is quite the handsome fellow. Trooper weighs about 60 lbs. and is approximately 2 years old.
Success! Trooper Has a Forever Home - But many of his kin are still homeless
Trooper was found wandering around at an oil site. When he came to NHP, he was skin and bones. Â He has gained weight and is quite a looker. Â Trooper has hip dysplasia, but doesn't let it slow him down. As time goes by it will probably affect him more.Â
More dogs like this sweet and lovable boy need a foster home or a forever home. A place where they can enjoy themselves and where they can give their human unconditional love. Visit NHP Adoptable Rescues to see more dogs and puppies in need of a home.
Trooper Likes Chew Toys
Trooper needs sturdy chew toys. This one might just fit the bill.
More Beautiful Adoptable Black Dogs
Pretty Daphne
Many of the stories of gorgeous black pups in the shelter are very similar. Some of these have been adopted, but every day more homeless animals find their way to the shelter.
Found near Black Lake
She is part of a litter of 6 others who came to us from the Black Lake area almost 2 years ago. The momma dog, Daisy Duke has been adopted along with two other siblings by one of our volunteers. Daphne had a home for a short period of time, until the family broke up and she came back to our care.
She is loving, good with children and other dogs. She is house trained and would be a great forever pet for someone. The Black Lake pups had a very bad start in life, they are all waiting for their chance at a forever home! (She is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations).
Black and White Bubba
This is another pup that was found in the Black Lake area. He's a real cutie and is only about 2 years old. There are many black and white dogs and puppies like Bubba available for adoption. If you'd like to see them go to either the NHP home page or Facebook page.
Also, Tattoo, a Black Male Terrier Mix
Tattoo was found near the local tattoo parlor. He's about 2 years old and loves to be out of the kennel. Tattoo has found a home, but others are not so lucky.
Black Lake Animal Hoarders
Recently, some well meaning attempts to help abandoned dogs turned into a case of animal hoarding. NHP rescued many dogs and puppies of all sizes from a couple of sites. These darling dogs need a loving home. Please visit NHP's web site or Facebook Page to see pictures of these and other precious pups. You'll find the links below.

Rawhide Chew Bones, Yum!
All the dogs at NHP love to chew on these rawhide bones. Wouldn't you like to send a box to them?
Plenty of Darling Black Puppies
Most of Elsie's pups have found their forever homes, but more little bundles of joy await the caring human who will take them home. These little ones will return that love ten fold.
Many Little Black Puppies are Ready for Adoption
If you want a puppy, NHP's cup runneth over with little wiggly, waggy-tail pups of all shapes and sizes. They are longing to find a forever home.
The pups pictured here that belonged to Elsie, the sweet Blue Tick Hound's eleven puppies have been adopted. Their father was probably a Lab so they are a good mix. Read the story of their rescue and birth here.
