Nostalgia, You Will Be The Death Of Me!

I honestly feel that nostalgia will be the death of me. I will probably die one day while listening to Frank Sinatra, watching Some Like It Hot, and reminiscing about the "good ol' days"! I find it funny that I call them that when the days I'm talking about are days when I wasn't even born yet! I love movies, music, cars, and more from the 40s and 50s. Maybe my other self lived then or maybe I'm just crazy.

My dad had me searching online for a frozen food company this morning, and I came across a Web site that has hundreds of photos of advertisements. I am in heaven going through these! The site is The Gallery of Graphic Design and it is at the very top of my favorites list right now! They have ads from 1930 to 1969. I would love to have some of these in frames hanging all over my house! Ahh...just thinking about it makes me happy!

Here are just a few of my favorites!

I love all this too, maybe not Frank Sinatra but the old ads, etc. I do not understand why there is not more things like this, I am sure it would be popular with so many.

      Voted up.

I love this! My 78 year old mother just told me a funny story about 8 O'Clock Coffee last week. My granddaddy noticed a different bag of coffee out and took a sip of the coffee in his cup. He complained about it tasting bad and asked my grandmother to remake it with his favorite 8 O'Clock Coffee. He came back in a bit and she had put poured out the new bag of 8 O'Clock into a container and put the "off" brand coffee in it while he was gone. He drank from the very same pot of coffee and said, "Now, that's a cup of coffee." Mom and I had a good laugh about it, but that shows the power of advertising and brands, even way back then (probably the 40's or early 50's...).

These were great. Thanks for putting it together. I still use enamel ware! Love them. I buy it in antique or second hand shops. You can also find them at yard sales. Haven't had Spam in such a long time. Ah, the good ol' A&P's. Haven't seen one of those in eons. Thanks for the memories.

Thanks for the memories, Eclectic. I'm afraid if it hadn't been for chicken pot pies, my husband and I would have starved the first year of our marriage. Sandra Busby

Jackie, I'm sure 50 years from now someone will be writing about being all nostalgic about how great 2012 was, too! haha!

Thanks for the comment and vote!

Connie Smith, haha! That's funny! I've always loved advertisements, but I hope I don't fall for too many of them. They don't always tell the truth!

Thanks for the comment and awesome story! I appreciate you stopping by!

Lizam1, yeah, I'm the same with that Spam ad. I hate that stuff, but it sure does make awesome fish bait!

cloverleaffarm, I'm glad you enjoyed this! I look for old kitchenware all the time when I go to thrift stores. My favorite thing to look for is Pyrex dishes! I love that stuff! Thanks for the comment!

Outstanding Hub! There is a museum of advertising in Portland, Oregon where you can listen to old ads and see old posters and magazine ads. I am old enough to remember listening to radio dramas even! I love old movies too, and am still a Sinatra fan.

      "Good To the Last Drop!"

      Up and Shared.

I love chicken pot pies and Spam so this hub was bound to be a hit with me. :) Thanks! What bothers me most is I remember those ads. Not sure what that says about me. Great job Lisa!

xstatic, I need to visit that museum! I have a collection of comedy radio programs that I just love. My favorites are "Fibber McGee and Molly" and "The Bickersons". I just love Don Ameche as John Bickerson! Oh, and I know it's "Good To The Last Drop" for some, but I prefer Folgers over Maxwell House! =)

Thanks for the comment, vote up, and I really appreciate you sharing this!

Bill, you like Spam? Really? Eww...haha! Nah, just kidding. I've never it and that's probably because my grandfather used it as bait! I was little, I didn't know any better, so I always thought it was bait and not people food! Silly kids!

      Thanks for the comment!

Actually, Spam is not that bad for you. Spam was first introduced in 1937, and contains chopped pork shoulder meat, ham meat, salt, water, potato starch as a binder and nitrate for a preservative. I wouldn't want to eat it everyday, but there are worse foods out there. Spam and eggs is my favorite.

cloverleaffarm, well, you do make it sound good, but I don't know... =P

Oh, and I know there are worse things out there for you to eat. I used to eat potted meat! I believe that says it all! haha!

I have the coffe pot in the eight o'clock ad! I thought I was the worst when it came to nostalgia but am so glad to see I share my nostalgic mania with someone else! The ads you used were great. Thanks. Voted up and interesting.

tillsontitan, nostalgia can be entertaining, but since I found the site where these ads came from, it's been downright exhausting! I have to make myself go to bed and when I do, I think about old ads I'd like to look up! haha!

      Thanks for the votes!
