Beautiful Table And kitchen Ware From Portmeirion Pottery
Portmeirion Pottery - A Brief History
Founded in 1960 in Stoke-On-Trent England, when a small pottery decorating company was taken over by pottery designer Susan Williams- Ellis and her husband Euan Cooper- Willis. In 1961 they bought a pottery manufacturing company which allowed them to make and decorate their own products from start to finish and Portmeirion pottery was born. It has now been renamed The Portmeirion group.
Before the take over Susan had been commissioned to make designs on tableware to sell at the Portmeirion village gift shop in Wales.
Portmeirion is a beautiful Italianate styled village bordering the Snowdonia national park in north Wales, and became a place of pilgrimage for fans of the cult TV serious starring Patrick Macgoohan and called " The prisoner " which was filmed on location there.
Two of Portmeirions collections, Botanic Garden and Pomona, are so pretty that I had a hard time choosing when I started my own collection some years ago.
The Botanic garden range features flowers and Butterflies, maybe the odd dragonfly or ladybird thrown in for good measure, whilst the Pomona range features fruits and blossom. Both collections have a distinctive dark green leaf motif around the edge of the plates and saucers.
But if you prefer more contemporary designs which are much less ornate but still classy then recent designs by Sophie Conran and other artists may be more to your liking.

Customer Comments On Portmeirion Products From Amazon.Com
We bought the product for mom and she absolutely loved it. It's even more lovely
than in the picture. Worth every penny.
I hesitated a lot between botanical garden and pomona. All my friends have botanical garden so I couldn't compare. when I got, I loved it. They are so beautiful and durable. I am going to collect all of Pomona.
I was given this lovely teapot by my co-workers when I retired at the end of March, 2011. It is beautiful to look at and has a nice large lid so it's easy to clean the inside. I enjoy it every time I use it and it is particularly appreciated when I serve tea in the garden. I have the Portmeirion mugs and it holds 5 mugfuls - a good supply of tea. I call this beautiful china to be used every day.
