How To Make Putty With Baking Soda and Cornstarch
What to do
This is one of the many types of putty that my mom used to make for my sister and I.
(an adult should make this recipe as it does require cooking)
1 Cups Baking Soda
1/2 Cup Cornstarch
3/4 Cup Cold Water
Food Coloring (If Desired)
In a medium saucepan stir dry ingredients together. Gradually add all of the water and stir until smooth. If desired you may add a few drops of food coloring. Then cook it on the stove over medium heat, stirring constantly. It will begin to thicken after coming to a boil. First it will become lumpy and then will form into a thick mass that should keep its shape. Remove from heat and turn mass onto a plate; cover with a damp cloth until cool enough to handle. Place on a surface that is lightly dusted with cornstarch. Knead until smooth and pliable. Store in a closed plastic container or plastic bag. This recipe makes 3/4 Pounds of Putty.
Now its time to play with the putty. You can also cut out shapes with a cookie cutter. Leave it out in the air to harden. Then if you like you can paint and decorate your creations.
Have Fun!
