How to Make a Cloth Pouch or a Drawstring Bag?

Have you thought of gifting somebody a present in a personalized way? Ever thought of saving few bucks purchasing gifts? Or at least thought of gifting the present in a bag which you have made?

These bags are known as potli bags in India. Brocade and silk potli bags are still popular among the fashionable crowd.

Here's how to make a simple cloth pouch or potli bag:-

Find some bright fabric. Organza, felt, silk, net type or even bright cotton works well. Take a rectangular piece about two and a half times the size you want your bag to be. Say for example, if you want to make a 4”x 6” size bag, then you have to take 13”x 6.5” sixe piece.

Fold the fabric in half with right sides facing each other, leaving about 1-2cms on the sides for the seam.

Fold the top ends and stitch in such a way that you leave 1-1.5 cms for putting the ribbon or tag. Stitch the other sides too.

Carefully turn the bag inside out.

Using a safety pin, carefully slip in a ribbon or a tag on the top end. Tie the free ends of the ribbon or the tag.
