How To Draw A Goblin Video Tutorial

Updated on October 9, 2011

Drawing A Goblin

Draw a well known fantasy creature called a Goblin. These Goblins look rather small and almost like Dwarves, except for their cheeky and evil grinning faces that are nasty looking. In the following drawing videos you can learn how to draw a Goblin through one possible variation as there are numerous ways you could draw a goblin and that is something to be expanded upon.

First of all, you will need a good sketching pencil that is either a HB, 2B or a 5 or 6B this helps for sketching with softer pencils as they are easier to rub out with an eraser. Use any paper you like for drawing as it doesn't really matter in the first sketching stages of any drawing. As you'll see in the first drawing video tutorial the process used to find the right figure drawing for a small Goblin character is an exploratory method of sketching and using the pencil to test variant pencil lines for the arms and the head and the full figure structure.

To draw a Goblin the way I drew it, was to try and aim for the classic Goblin look with the Tunic and belt and the classic leather boots and that was it. Also the clawed fingers on the hands with three fingers on each hand was a choice I made personally. You could draw your Goblin characters with lots of armor or extra clothing that suggests a Goblin warrior or something with a Sword or Axe.

Drawing And Inking A Goblin Creature

Inking the Goblin drawing now is usually an easy task as you can follow some of the pencil lines whilst others deserve to be improved upon like the overall outlines and specific areas like the hands and fingers which need to be defined more at this stage. Good quality ink pens aren't really essential as you can get pretty good results with cheap ink pens or gel pens, so long as the ink flows quite well, they are more than adequate.

By using your ink pen to vary the lines on your drawing you can learn to create a few ink sketching techniques along the way if you think of different textures that can be inked in various ways like, hair, fur and specific types of clothing.

Watch the drawing video to see how you start to ink a drawing of a Goblin.
