How To Draw H.R Gigers Alien Head

Drawing An Alien Head

How to draw an Alien head and draw a good detailed Aliens face.

Aliens in the movies have been around for over 30 years now and they are a very iconic movie creature. Designed By Swiss artist H.R Giger they have captured the imagination of off world alien horror and other than being good to look at, they are great to draw too. Here in this drawing tutorial we are going to try and draw an Alien head and from there in a separate hubpage, we will draw a full Alien.

In our first couple of sketches below we have to get an idea of what starting point to aim for and here I've gone for the simplistic approach. Drawing an Aliens head is much like a dogs in that it is long but then it curves off and doesn't have any eyes, so we start off with a rough outline like in the sketch below and then work through this and try to shape it into something more Alien like.

The second sketch is a little more organized in that it attempts to build on the first sketch like any other drawing an we can start to see certain features sticking out, like the teeth for one and the dome of the head too....

Developing The Aliens Head

All the advice that I can give you is to just develop your aliens head based on images and any reference material you can get your hands on. Some of the movie Alien photos you can find online are quite useful, but some are quite dark and you can't see a clear definied design, so look at any comic book art that's available too.

Remember that an Aliens head is shiny and you could try and show that with some good solid pencil shading or even comic book inking with cross hatching could work, in the drawing below I filled in all the details and then shaded the Alien head drawing. What really matters is that you tried to draw an Alien head and if it doesn't work out, don't despair, you can always try again.

In addition I thought I'd try and draw an alien facehugger too just for fun and you can see that on the drawing below too.

I'll try and flesh this hubpage out a bit, because I accidentally lost one of the drawing step images, so I'll have to retrace it to fit in...sorry about that!

To get a better idea of drawing an Aliens head I thought another drawing video would be the best way of showing you how an Aliens head is approached when you start to draw it and finish it off with some shading using a 5B pencil.
