How To Draw Horror Art

Updated on October 11, 2011

Drawing Horror Art

Drawing horror art has always fascinated me and what could lie between worlds and the nightmares that anyone can dream up from their wildest imaginations. I've always been one for drawing monsters and creatures from dark shadowy hell worlds and it's realising that this world could exist in ones mind, makes it more fun to create and imagine the darkness in horror.

The artists that inspire me are the ones that can show the creatures that we have come to know and love and regard as icons of movies, TV and other media like books and comic books. Also these artists draw and create unique ideas and are so inspiring to see their collective works, the works of Clive Barker, Brom and Dale Ziemianski are all inspiring and other artists also are worth a look too in the worlds of horror.

When approaching the task of drawing horror art, a good idea is to work out what you want to draw and go from there, the standard thing to think of is what creature or horror design you want to try and draw. In the case of the drawing video below I decided to draw a tentacled monster face with maggots in it's mouth and this was a request on my YouTube channel which was great because it challenged me to draw something that someone else suggested.

As usual with my drawing videos I start off drawing quite lightly and then when something begins to form from the beginning pencil lines I develop them further and see how it goes. Drawing a real time video is great to try and see if you can draw something based on an idea you may have quite quickly with the deadline of a video having to be no longer than 10 minutes.

Watch the video below to see how to draw a horror face.....

How To Draw Dripping Blood Video

A simple video I created on drawing dripping blood, just to add to the horror theme. Blood is the classic design element that you can add to any horror creature or monster and you make it rabid and scary looking by adding blood dripping from it's mouth.
