Learn How to Sew with Singer Sewing Machines

Updated on September 28, 2012

Could your child learn how to sew with Singer Sewing Machines just like Cecilia Cassini? She is the child prodigy with a natural flair for fashion, who learned to cut fabrics not long after she cut her first tooth, and has gone on to take the world of fashion by storm after being bought a Singer Sewing Machine by her grandmother for her 6th birthday.

Sewing machines need not be dangerous in the hands of the very young, and many modern machines come with needle safety features to prevent accidents. You child is probably safer with a machine than with a needle and scissors.

If your child, or indeed you, would like to sew your own clothes, or curtains, or cushion covers, or whatever you can think of that requires the use of needle and thread, then consider the features of the Singer Sewing Machine, the world's most famous name in sewing machines.

The Singer Model 7467 has received great reviews from people who have bought this model. Everybody has found it simple to use, with some great features including

  • 70 different stitches
  • automatic threader
  • adjustable length and width of stitching
  • twin needle control
  • easy drop-in bobbin system with automatic thread tension adjustor
  • computerised for ease of use
  • quiet running
  • smooth operation

The Singer 611 Universal Carrying Case will fit all the models featured on this page, and even if you never wish to move your sewing machine from the table you use it on, the carrying case will keep it dust-free when not in use.

Watch the video below to see the full features offered on the Singer Confidence Sewing Machine range, including the 7647 model.

The Singer 7442 Electronic Sewing Machine features

  • 30 built-in stitch types
  • built-in needle threader
  • adjustable stitch length and width
  • LED light, free-arm, on-board storage
  • Accessories included in price, along with 25 year guarantee.

Customers reviews suggest the machine is incredibly easy to use, and very effective in doing all kinds of sewing jobs. Overall customer satisfaction is high, though a couple of people complained that the foot pedals were sticky resulting in uneven sewing speeds. I would suggest asking for a change of product under warranty if this happened to me.

The Singer 120 Stitch Function Sewing Machine 7444 features

  • automatic buttonhole function
  • 48 different stitches
  • electronic stitch formation
  • automatic tension
  • top drop-in bobbin
  • limited 25 year warranty

Words used by reviewers who have bought this machine range from 'awesome' to 'fantastic'. Easy to use, it runs extremely quietly with minimum fuss and does the job it claims to do.

There are 45 videos in the 'How to Sew' video collection below which can be watched one by one for those who need a little help in learning how to sew using a sewing machine.

That is fantastic! Well done you! I'm afraid I'm completely talentless in that direction. My limit is about running up a pair of curtains or cushion covers.

Were those the ones you powered by moving a foot pedal - almost like riding a bike?

I don't see any sign of the Greece problem spreading to Spain at the moment, even though the situation is similar with thieving politicians and the people earning less in recession.

My mum always had a Singer and what I remember of it was that it was really HEAVY! The modern ones are light, especially in comparison!

Nice sewing advice, I have a Bernina and there's nothing like a good sewing machine, with one on hand it's amazing what you can mend, make and just flat out create. I myself love to quilt... Thanks and Peace ;)
