When you think about the world’s great ports, do you think about New York, Tokyo or Amsterdam? What you probably don’t think about is Antwerp. Located in the north of Belgium along the Schelde, it’s one of the world’s largest ports with over 30 kilometers of docks serving ships of all sorts and sizes.
With several centuries of history, the port has changed a great deal over time in order to keep pace with technology as well as the ever-growing size of ships. However, if one looks hard enough, traces of its past can be found by the eager viewer, often cropping up amongst hulking icons of the present.
