How to Make a Frosted Glass Display Jar for Beach Sand
Summer is here... along with family vacations in faraway beach resorts. Make a remembrance of those summer outings by creating a memento using beach sand, pebbles, and seashells.
Materials Needed:
- a glass jar
- a black permanent marker
- some ordinary white glue
- glitter glue and/or colored glue
- sand, pebbles, or seashells from your latest beach outing
Step 1:
First, let’s create a stained glass look on the jar by diagonally streaking a thin layer of ordinary white glue all over it. This has another purpose too—it’ll make the glass surface rough so that our glitter glue and colored glue designs won’t drip down so much.
Step 2:
When this coating of glue dries completely (and becomes transparent), draw designs on the jar using a black permanent marker. Since we’re making this one to display sand, pebbles, and small seashells from our summer beach outing, we’ll draw some coconut trees, clouds, and the sun to create a tropical look.
Step 3:
Color your designs using colored glue or glitter glue. There are no rules; just use any color you like! Oh, we also drew a line around the lower portion of the jar to signify the shoreline. You can do the same if you like. Be careful not to touch the wet glue as you go around coloring the sides of the jar though or it'll leave a big nasty smudge.
Step 4:
When all the colored glue and glitter glue dries up in bright vivid colors, pour in and arrange (if you can) the sand, pebbles, and seashells you collected from your beach outing. Then screw on the lid. You can also write the name of your vacation place on the jar so you know where the sand is from. Now put it up on a shelf for everyone to see!
