Surprising Yourself

Updated on May 3, 2012

Trying something that you thought you could not do

I love writing. I have been writing since I was ten years old, but I never thought I was an artistic person when it came to picking up a pencil and drawing.

About two years ago I started writing my first children's book "Lily's Grand Adventures" and I knew it was in need of illustrations however I could not afford to pay an illustrator to do the work. My son asked me to try and I did it took me almost a year of trying and perfecting the character of bugs that sat in my imagination however when it was finished I couldn't have been happier that I had it in me the whole time. Since then I have continued to learn different drawing methods and have become very confident in myself. My daughter who is only four has also taken up the artist hand, while my son has taken up the writer's hand.

I am very fortunate to have such talented children and other family as well.

I believe you have more talent than you realize, it is just a matter of believing in yourself and having the support of family and friends to keep encouraging you.
