The Importance Of Proper Wood Pellet Storage

Updated on August 10, 2010

The Importance Of Proper Wood Pellet Storage

There are numerous benefits offered by wood pellet fuel.  They are more cost-effective than other fuel sources for one thing.  Wood pellet fuel is also better for the environment because it does not pollute to global warming and this is a huge deal.  Wood pellet fuel is even better for the environment than regular firewood.

It is important to have proper wood pellet storage if you are going to use wood pellet fuel.  Whether you are planning on using your wood pellets in a wood pellet stove or in a wood pellet boiler it does not matter because you are still going to need storage.  Proper storage of your wood pellets is going to ensure they stay dry for one thing.  You also need to ensure that the wood pellets are kept free from moisture.

If you ever make your own wood pellets at home you will learn how important keeping the right moisture content is.  When wood pellets are produced it is ensured that there is only a moisture content of between 10-20% and this is what ensures proper pellets.  Leaving your wood pellets out in the open even if they are inside is very risky.  Your best option for wood pellet storage is a stainless steel container.

A vat or tub of stainless steel is perfect for this because it will keep the wood pellets dry and clean of debris.  Stainless steel is one of the most durable materials in the world so you know the storage container will last you.  It does tend to be the most expensive option at the same time however so you will need to think about that.  You can find pretty much whatever size stainless steel tank you want, so depending on the amount of wood pellets you have to hold you know there will be more than enough room.

This is a better choice for people on a budget and will still do the job.  It depends on a few factors as to which storage container is going to be best for you.  The choice is up to you but the most important thing is that you have your wood pellets kept safe.  Then you can continue using your wood pellet fuel and reaping all the benefits it offers.
