You'll Be Laughing All The Way To The Bank With Me...

.... to put back all the money you're going to SAVE by making these earrings! OK girls this is fun, it's time for open-minded shopping. Price Limit $5. If you go to any of the big box stores around town right now, I guarantee you they have a huge display of holiday jewelry! Earrings especially. I was at Walmart just last night and they had about 200 different pair to choose from just in one display - and they were all $2 each! I picked up two. We're going to learn from those today.

I wanted some cute little snowflakes and then the angels caught my eye as well. Hey why not - they're $2 apiece! Just remember, these must be a dangle-type earring that has a little hole at the top of the charm in order for them to work.

You have one more shopping stop to make. You need to go anywhere they sell jewelry findings (parts) like JoAnn, Hobby Lobby, MIchaels, etc. You need a package of your choice of lever back earrings. They come in everything from nickel-free silver or gold plated to real sterling silver and real 18 kt gold plated. Anyway, choose some that will go with most of the earrings you'll make. Oh you'll need- jump rings to match.

If you're going to dabble with jewelry, you'll need at least one and preferably two pairs of pliers. I round nose and one flat nose. Cheap is fine. The ones I selected for you below are both round and flat nose in one plier, which is great! You might want two of them.

Away we go! Dashing through the snow, clutching tiny Hobby Lobby bag in purse so you won't lose the little parts... dodging snowdrifts and barking dogs... whew! You made it into the house! Turn on the kettle, make some nice tea, and let's get started!

The Idea Is Simple...

We're replacing cheap earring findings with nice ones. The actual charms are usually pretty nice; it's the cheap findings that gives them away. So if we replace those and add a bit of sparkle, we've upgraded to the ones you pay $25 for in the department store... for about 1/5 the price!

Here's How They Turned Out! - Now they have Sterling Silver leverbacks and jump rings... much better!

What You'll Need

  1. Cheap, But Cute Holiday Earrings
  2. Lever Back Earring Sets
  3. Matching Jump Rings
  4. Round and flat-nosed Pliers
  5. Empty Jewelry Gift Box or Cute Fabric Pouch

An Idea...

If you want to get a little fancier, pick up some clear, Aurora Borealis or other colored 4 MM Swarovski Crystals to add sparkle to your creations.
