Making Bookmarks -- Book Thongs

Updated on September 11, 2014

Beaded Book Thongs

Making bookmarks, like book thongs, is a fun craft. And you end up with a useful bookmark to use to keep track of where you left off.

Beaded book thongs also make great gifts for teachers, kids, friends, just about anyone who likes to read.

Book thongs fit between the pages of a book where you stopped reading. A thin cord is usually used, and it is embellished with charms and beads. The top and bottom ends hang out of the book making a book thong both decorative and useful.

When you make bookmarks as gifts, beaded book thongs can be made with charms and beads tailored for each person's personality. Part of the fun of making bookmarks is choosing just the right beads and charms.

Check the Bead Hole Size

Be sure to check the size of the holes of beads to make sure they will fit through your cording.

Large-holed Beads Allow for More Types of String

Use a Big Eye Needle

You may need to use a beading needle,

like a big eye needle for some "limp" cording

like silk or embroidery thread.

I've seen these and really like them. Could easily be something I add to the many things that I make right now.

I make bookmarks from old greeting cards. This looks like fun and I even have most of the supplies on hand to make one of these book thongs. I'll feature this on my bookmark lens.

Thanks for the idea. We just got our girl a beading set. Now I can make these with her instead of just bracelets and necklaces.
