Painting Christmas Ornaments
For Christmas or just to hang for decoration
One of a kind, hand painted Christmas ornaments are a favorite thing for me to make during the Holidays. I have made hundreds in the past 30 years, from personal ones to general Xmas scenes.
My first ornament was an old silver one that lost it's luster, so I painted it...as it turned out, someone saw it and wanted to buy it from me. I then started to bring them along to art's and craft shows.
My ornaments are hanging on Xmas trees in many U.S. states, including other parts of the world.

How I paint my bulb ornaments... - and ideas for personalizing
*Notes for painting
1. I buy ornaments without a design on them
2. Clean any oil or dirt that might impair painting.
3. Any acrylic paint will do, you can even use the sparkle paint, if that's what you like.
4. Start out with a pencil drawing, or trace the pattern/image on the ornament.
5. Dark colors come first, adding the next lighter color, till I get to the highlights and details.
6. Finishing off with an acrylic glaze, mat, semi gloss or sheen, whatever affect you like
7. I like to add either a satin ribbon, or string that is gold or silver
8. If it's a dog, cat or horse and sleigh, I like adding a small Jingle bell on the string or ribbon.
9. You can also add special Rub-on type for personalizing
10. I have added charms that go with the motive and it creates an extra interest
11. Personalizing with an image makes it special, I add a great deal of details
My Ornament painting participation
In 2013 I decided to participate painting an ornament for our Capitol in Madison WI. The theme was to represent past or present events at Christmas time...
My ornament is about the past, featuring a two horse drawn sleigh with a grown person and a child waving a W-flag...they are delivering a Tree to the capitol.
I added many little things on there to make it appealing to the eye, and for the imagination of what was happening in the scene .... It was fun to paint.

Horse with glitter
Using Cardboard -
This was my first handmade Horse, cut out of cardboard, painted with acrylic and glitter attached with a gold string.
I have also used decoupage, then sealed with a glaze or crackle for an interesting ages affect.
More Cardboard -
This one was the second Horse creation, also done on Cardboard...these were made for my Horse Themed Christmas Tree, added to the over 250+ in my collection.
Of course there is Santa -
Both sides are painted making them look like an old type Santa. The cardboard works well for this, as it's lightweight and makes great gift tags as well.
Displayed Ostrich Egg
Don't forget the -
Of course you can't forget the Teddy Bear...I had always liked this theme, especially with a stick horse or rocking horse.
My art decal on an Ostrich egg -
This was an ostrich egg made as an Ornament or an Easter egg, my design was licensed out to the person that made these eggs.
