Pastel Art on a Budget

Updated on April 10, 2013

Pastels for that School Art Class or Just for You!

Finding school art supplies on a budget is not easy.

As you get closer to the school year, the supplies run out or what are available, are increased in price due to demand.

If you are attending art class and anticipate the use of pastels, I have included a great deal below on a wonderful art set at a discounted price. I have also included a link to a sketch book set that should also last you an entire year using pastel or pencil as a medium.

Although I love pencil as much as pastel, I do love the striking colors in pastel.

I have included some of my drawings to show you what can be done.

Please vote on your favorite at the end and leave your comments in the Guestbook.

Thank you for the visit!

Art, Pastels and I

I don't consider myself an artist but I do love art. My Mother was an artist and an art teacher so I guess that is where I got it. My Father did not have an artistic bone in his body.

I started many years ago with pencil and moved along to other mediums but never strayed very far from colored pencil. I did not always like pastel because I think it is messy and you can really smear your art unless you have a good eraser on hand.

Pastels can be very expensive but there really isn't that much difference between different types unless you like oil pastels.

When buying pastels, you can always go with a budget pastel. If you know how to draw or create just a little, I think that pastels can be very colorful and artistic. They are easy to mix and it is easy to change shades.

When I look at a subject, I just look at the color blocks within it and the shades and I like to draw realistically. However, I do love pop art and abstract art, just don't like to do it myself.

Below is a budget set of pastels and sketchbooks and you can get started for less than $50 total. If you go through these links to Amazon, you will also find soft erasers. I like gum erasers. They need to be soft so you can lift your mistakes and not smear them.

I hope you enjoy this site!
