The Horse artwork of Artist Linda Hoxie
I'm a member of The Horse Review
Let's face it, I love horses. The are so beautiful I could never tire of looking at them. Whether they are out standing in a field, being ridden, running wild and free or rolling on the ground they mesmerize me.
I rode my sisters horses as a child, got a job at 13 and worked so that I could own my own horse. It was my dream, my whole life as a younger woman.
These are my version of horses, displayed in different media in different sizes.

Rearing Stallion on sand dollar - by Linda hoxie
Painting on Sand Dollars is something I really enjoy. Each of these Sand Dollars was actually found on the beach in Crescent City California. During certain seasons you can find more whole sand dollars than you can carry!
Cowboy riding horse in the Sunset - Sand dollar painting by Linda Hoxie
Each Sand dollar is dried, the sand is emptied from them. I then soaked for about 15 minutes in a weak solution of bleach and water to clean it and take any ocean smells away. They dry again, empty any more sand that loosens and then soak them in a solution of water and white glue to strengthen each sand dollar.
This was a gift to my sister Vicki for Christmas this year.
Horse in the moonlight - by Linda Hoxie
The Sand dollar is very pourous so I coat each with a solid color of acrylic paint first. Letting it dry before I begin the painting. The paint tends to soak in and it takes time to learn the technique to paint on them and not loose your colors. I love the bright colors and found so much pleasure in doing the silhouettes that once I did one, it was all I wanted to do.
The painting was a gift to my sister Star, she loved it!
A Blaze of Glory - Artist Linda Hoxie

Horses in the Red desert, Father and Son - by Artist Linda Hoxie
"Father and Son"
This was painted after a trip through southern Utah and Arizona to the Grand Canyon. This painting was done entirely from my memory of the landscape and a little artistic imagination. I really enjoy painting like this because I know the finished product is my artwork entirely.
